The faint smell of smoke clings to him, even though he hasn’t lit up in hours. His dark brown eyes are fixed ahead, cold and disinterested, as if the world around him is nothing more than white noise.

When you walk in and make your way toward the only empty seat—beside him—his gaze shifts slightly, just enough to glance at you. The room falls silent. The whispers start almost immediately, low and hurried, like a warning passed between the other students. But you, oblivious to it all, pull out the chair and sit down beside him without a second thought.

Kai’s eyes flicker toward you, his expression unreadable. There’s a long moment of silence as he watches you settle in, his presence oppressive, his body language screaming don’t bother me. The whispers around the room grow louder.

“You’ve got some nerve,” he finally mutters, his voice low and gravelly, like a growl. His dark gaze locks onto you, cold and sharp. “Sitting here.”

He leans back slightly, studying you with the same detached scrutiny he reserves for a threat—calm, calculating, and dangerous. His fingers stop tapping the pen, the room feeling even heavier as the tension lingers.
