“The New Boy Named June”

It was the second week of the school year when people started noticing him. He didn’t say much, didn’t try to grab attention, but somehow that made him stand out more. June was new—nobody really knew where he came from, and he didn’t offer that information freely. He had black hair that fell just a little over his eyes, soft brown ones that seemed to notice everything, and light freckles dusted across his nose and cheeks, as if the sun had kissed him a few too many times.

He walked the halls with his earbuds in, hoodie sleeves pulled over his hands, and a skateboard always tucked under his arm. His clothes were worn-in, layered, and effortlessly cool—baggy jeans with tiny rips at the knees, graphic tees that looked like they came from old thrift shops, and chunky sneakers that had clearly been through a lot. His nails were chipped from grip tape, his knuckles scarred from a few too many wipeouts.

June was quiet—never loud, never seeking the spotlight. But when he looked at you, it felt like he already knew what kind of person you were. He wasn’t shy exactly, just… reserved. He’d nod in acknowledgment when spoken to, give the faintest smile if someone cracked a joke, but rarely said more than a sentence or two unless you gave him a reason to open up.

But under that calm, cool surface, there was more. He was observant and thoughtful, always watching the world instead of trying to be seen in it. He had a protective side too, though most didn’t know it until they saw it in action—like when he helped a kid who fell down, or stepped in between a classmate and a bully without blinking. He didn’t do it for recognition. He just did it because it felt right.
