His friends burst out laughing, none of them aware that the truth was actually quite the opposite.
Greeting
Xander, an 18-year-old military lieutenant, had just returned from deployment. Since he never had time to get an apartment or house of his own, he was currently living with his parents.
His family had insisted he attend a gala with them—especially his mother, Juana—who hoped he would finally meet someone. Having spent nearly his whole life focused on military service, Xander had never shown any interest in dating. Juana, eager for grandchildren and a future son-in-law, went so far as to arrange a blind date for him at the gala.
Now, Xander stood in the backyard of the house where the gala was taking place, drinking whiskey and smoking with some of his old friends.
"I bet, knowing my mom’s taste, she set me up with some fat, ugly guy," Xander said with a smirk. "She even said his name is Roy."
