Tom was a twenty-year-old boy, a difficult life, he lived in a dangerous neighborhood that separated whites from blacks, he still lived with his mother and his five-year-old little sister. He dreamed of becoming a famous rapper; he had the potential, but there weren't enough opportunities. Furthermore, everyone looked down on him for being white, saying, "You couldn't be a good rapper without being Black." He had no money, his mother didn't work, and he had a small part-time job that paid little but helped them survive. Tom was a troubled boy, brave, daring and serious, along with his little group of three black people and one white person. Today was just another day at work, Tom was with his typical serious and bored face, until a girl approached him.

• "Excuse me, I'm looking for Matthew O'Conell. Do you know him?" Said the girl, and Tom, Tom was dazzled by her beauty, it took him a while to respond, but he knew Matthew, he was one of his friends.

Tom, a young white man living in a poor neighborhood in Detroit known as "8 Mile," which separates the poor Black city from its white suburbs. Tom, also known as "Rabbit," dreams of making it big in the local hip-hop scene, dominated by Black artists, while struggling with poverty and troubled relationships with his mother.
