Allen Walker

A young man of average height and thin build. Over time, his body has become covered in many scars, the most noticeable of which was received from his own Sword of Exorcism. There is a deep wound on his stomach. He has short to medium length grey hair which he sometimes wears in a ponytail. The eyes are silver-gray (in D.Gray-man Hallow - light lavender). An unusual red scar on the left side of his face that looks like an inverted pentagram located on his forehead above his left eye and runs along his entire left eye and cheek, almost reaching his chin.

Over time, Nea's memory began to merge more and more with Walker's body, possibly even influencing Allen's thinking and speech patterns to some extent: Allen began to use less formal speech when talking to his friends, beginning to communicate in a more casual manner (note: it is noteworthy that before Mana Walker's curse, Allen's behavior and speech patterns somewhat resembled that of a young Nea, who at that time lived with Mana and Katerina). The impetus for the Fourteenth's first true awakening was a wound received from Allen's Sword of Exorcism. Then, Nea was able to take full control of Walker's body for a short period of time, but retreated as soon as Allen's friends tried to shout to their comrade. The final trigger for Nea to begin making more violent attempts to take control of Allen's body was the wound from Mugen Kanda in the North American Branch, which caused Allen to see Nea's appearance in his subconscious for the first time, and his real body to take on the gray hue that Noahs have in their true form for the first time. Allen initially struggled to resist the Fourteenth's takeover of his body, causing him to experience pain and confusion, but after some time, Nea eventually managed to gain absolute control over Allen's body. Allen himself currently has no way to forcibly regain control of his body, unlike Nea, who can "appear" and "disappear" at will.

Despite Allen's left arm containing Innocence, Nea is apparently able to utilize the Noah's Dark Matter-based abilities when taking control of Walker's body. Additionally, Akuma, as well as the Noah Family themselves, can sense the Noah aura emanating from Allen's body.

About 35 years ago before the start of the main story, the memories of the Fourteenth, Nea, were "implanted" into Allen's body. This process was done with the consent of both parties, Nea and the past Allen, who personally volunteered to be the "guardian" of his friend's memory. However, as is known, Allen's current age and appearance are very different from the man who was Nea's ally 35 years ago. In addition, all of Allen's memories, or rather the memories of the supposed "past Allen", mysteriously disappeared (note: it is known that Allen did not remember anything that happened before the age of eight, when he was first abandoned by his parents. Even then, he had Innocence in his left hand). Thus, what actually happened to the Allen of that time after Nea's death remains unknown.

Nea's presence in the current Walker's body first appeared after Tyki Mikk destroyed Allen's Innocence by stabbing him in the heart. At that time, Nea only took the form of a shadow that Allen once saw in his dream. Later, during the events on Noah's Ark, Nea's shadow began to reflect on any mirror surface in the real world, standing directly behind Allen. In addition, Nea's memories could control his movements to some extent, such as when playing the piano when Allen had to play a melody to control the Ark. Allen also gained a direct link to Nea's memories, containing the necessary spells to control the Ark: when opening and closing the Gate, all the magic formulas appeared in Allen's head as his own thoughts.

In addition to his Innocence, Allen has a scar on his left eye with an inverted pentagram, a cursed eye that allows Allen to see the souls trapped within Akuma. The scar was given to him by Mana, who attacked him when she realized that he had summoned him back to this world as an Akuma. According to Allen, the eye is capable of evolving like an Akuma and obeys his will. However, at certain times, it can become uncontrollable, acting on its own. When Allen witnesses an Akuma being destroyed by something other than Innocence, his eye begins to bleed. The pentagram itself is shaped like the Sigil of Baphomet, the official symbol of the Church of Satan, and is associated with other organizations that adhere to Satanism and the Left Hand Path. Cursed Eye Level 1: The first form is a black eye with red rings that automatically activates when Allen is near an Akuma. It gives him the ability to see the souls sealed within the Akuma. When Allen witnessed the self-destruction (by Road's order) of a Level 2 Akuma and the disintegration of the soul sealed within it, Allen's cursed eye was extremely painful and bleeding. Cursed Eye Level 2: During a quest involving the vampire Aleister Crowley and Eliade (Akuma), Allen's curse intensifies and his left eye undergoes a major change. A cogwheel, similar to a monocle, appears on the eye. The new eye allows Allen to pinpoint the location of Akuma within 300 meters, even if they are not visible to the naked eye. People near Allen can also see the souls trapped within the Akuma, though Allen seems to have gained control over this ability since his evolution. Cursed Eye Level 3: In Chapter 198 of the manga, during the battle against Alma Karma, Allen's eye is shown to have become more "advanced". Now, instead of red circles, an inverted pentagram appears in the pupil.

Sword of Exorcism (退魔ノ剣たいまけん, Taima no Ken): When Allen's synchronization exceeds 100%, he is able to transform his left arm into a large sword with a cross adorning the blade. A cross-shaped emblem covers his left shoulder, and his cloak transforms to cover his missing arm. When struck, the sword is capable of destroying evil without harming normal humans, meaning Allen is able to "kill the Noah" within the Noah Family without harming their human bodies. When used against Level 1 to 3 Akuma, the sword has the same effect as the Grave Cross attack, with a residual cross-shaped glow appearing where the Akuma was defeated. However, the sword has much less of an effect on Level 4 Akuma. It should be noted that the sword's appearance is very similar to the Millennium Earl's sword, only in opposite tones.

Death Balls (破壊咆哮デス・ボール, Desu Bōru): Using the Sword of Exorcism, Allen is able to create a series of large explosions. This technique greatly exhausts Allen.

Crown Clown (God's Joker) (神ノ道化クラウン・クラウン, Kami no Douke (Kuraun Kuraun)): After Allen's Cross was nearly destroyed by Tyki Mikk, for unknown reasons Allen's Innocence did not disappear, but continued to exist as a cloud of tiny particles. The particles remaining within Allen brought him back to life by repairing the hole in his heart. Allen attempted to re-synchronize with his Innocence, but the most he could achieve was temporarily materializing it in extreme cases, after which the arm would disappear again. It was not until his battle with Thread, a Level 3 Akuma, that Allen finally managed to re-establish his connection with his Innocence.

Materializing separately from him, his Innocence took the form of a white cape with a masquerade mask attached to it and protected Buck and For before merging with Allen's body. His right arm was now covered by a long sleeve with a glove, and his left arm was given a crown-shaped bracelet; his left arm itself was now black (red in D.Gray-man Hallow) with a white cross on the back of his hand and long metal claws in place of his fingers. In his non-activated form, his left arm also became black (red) all the way up to his shoulder, ending in a spiral-shaped tattoo. Grave Cross (Kurosu Gureibu): Allen is able to crucify a target simply by drawing lines in the shape of a cross with his left hand, effectively destroying even a Level 3 Akuma. Clown's Belt or King's Belt (道化ノ帯クラウン・ベルト, Dōke no Tai (Kuraun Beruto): Creates ribbons extending from any part of his cloak that obey Allen's will. It can be used to grab various objects, restrain an opponent, or form compacted spears to impale an enemy. The belt can also materialize from the sleeve and glove on Allen's right hand. Crown Claw (爪ノ王輪クラウン・エッジ, Kuraun Ejji): An attack that releases a barrage of crown-shaped rings from the claws of Allen's left hand.

Cross (十字架クロス, Kurosu): A rare parasitic type of Innocence that takes the form of a cross-shaped shard embedded into the back of Allen's left hand. As a result, his entire left hand appears red, scaly, and deformed. The Innocence is symbiotic with his body. As a parasitic type, it is capable of activating and acting on its own.

Cross α (Alpha): Allen's first and primary form of Innocence. His left arm grows larger, turning into a massive clawed hand with an unusual glow at the shoulder joint. In this form of Innocence, Allen is able to manipulate the size of his hand, increasing it to many times its size. For example, he was able to completely grasp the enormous body of the Fallen One, Suman Dark.[15] Grave Cross (Kurosu Gureibu): When activated at level 1, it can release a large amount of energy, capable of destroying multiple Level 1 Akuma at once. Cross β (Beta): The left arm takes the form of a cannon with fiery "petals" around the barrel. This form is suitable for both long-range and close-range combat. Cross Palisade (Kurosu Baringu): As the second phase of its activation, Innocence is able to fire energy stakes that, when they hit the ground, form a palisade, thus surrounding the enemy.[16] Cross Sword or Spear (十字架ノ槍クロス・スピアー, Kurosu Supiā): Allen is able to focus the energy in the barrel of the cannon and form a sort of sword (spear) out of Innocence.[17]

Physical Strength: Due to his Innocence form, Allen is forced to constantly engage in close combat with Akuma, causing his physical fitness levels to greatly exceed normal human standards. He has been able to perform training that seems physically impossible and withstand attacks from Akuma that would break through walls. His physical capabilities are greatly increased when his Innocence is activated.

Swordsmanship: After Allen was able to transform his Innocence into the Sword of Exorcism, he began studying swordsmanship, training extensively with Yuu Kanda.

Allen always smiles and tries to think positively, despite all the horror and hardships he has to go through. He always tried to fight alone, afraid of hurting his friends. He always blames himself for not being able to save someone, even though he could have done it.

Even towards his enemies, the Noah Family, Allen does not have any kind of boundless hatred that would make him willing to kill them like he did with Akuma. For example, he failed to attack Road when he had the chance, and only attempted to kill the Noah inside Tyki instead of completely destroying his human body. Additionally, despite almost the entire Order turning against him because of Nea, Allen eventually came to realize that he only mindlessly hated him and knew nothing about him.

Allen is a kind, generous, and very polite young man. He is often willing to sacrifice himself for others, which greatly angers some of his comrades and friends, especially Kanda Yu and Lenalee Lee. Allen is humble and childishly naive despite having a difficult childhood, especially when he was with his teacher General Cross. Due to his Cursed Eye, which allows him to see the souls of people bound to Akuma, Allen believes that Akuma are as important to him as normal people. According to him, his left hand is for saving Akuma, while his right hand is for saving people.[3]

Before meeting Mana, Allen was a rude and unfriendly child when he was working at the circus. After meeting Mana's dog (Allen), it became clear that his rude behavior was just a mask to cope with his loneliness and the cruel treatment he received from the circus workers, who bullied and disliked him because of his left arm.[4] After recovering from Mana's death, Allen took on the traits of his adoptive father, becoming a polite child.[5] Over time, he began to use less formal language when talking to people he knew, something that Lenalee and Johnny Gill noticed and approved of.[6] The only person Allen still has a hard time getting along with is Yuu Kanda.

Despite the Order's accusations of treason and complicity with the Earl, Allen still considers it his home and loves all of its members, and has stated that he will always remain an Exorcist.[7] Ever since his rehabilitation after Mana's death, Allen has taken to wearing his "mask", which has gradually become noticed by those close to him. As Cross has stated, he prefers Allen's "dark side" as it is more similar to how he used to be when Mana was still alive.

Because of his strange hair color, Allen was initially embarrassed by other people's looks and tried to wear hoods and hats. When he tried to dye his hair, it immediately turned white, which is why he decided to give it up. He hid his arm, and still does, behind long sleeves and gloves. However, when around people close to him or during battles, he feels completely comfortable, not caring about his strange appearance. According to him, because Lenalee, River, and the rest of the Order completely ignored his appearance, Allen gradually began to think that his gray hair and everything else did not matter at all.[2]

As a child, before Mana Walker's curse, Allen had chestnut-red hair. When Allen is in his Noah form, his skin takes on a gray tint and his eyes turn amber.
