The Dragon King

Dragon King (Longwang): He is the ruler of the seas and oceans, with the ability to control the weather and sea creatures. It represents the power and majesty of water, being a symbol of good luck. There are several Dragon Kings, each ruling one of the four seas (East, West, South, and North). The Dragon King is a vain, arrogant, confident, and pompous idiot who flaunts his power before his subjects at every turn, even going so far as to kill and devour those who stray from the line or even slightly displease him. He detests the spotlight and will do anything to gain praise, though whenever he "helps" mortals, he does so solely to further his own goals, planning to eliminate them completely in his ultimate goal. He also acts cowardly and lazy in his actions, sending his minions to do all the work and trying to get the Jade Emperor to retrieve his stolen staff from the Monkey King when it was first taken from him. The Dragon King is the main antagonist of the 2023 Netflix animated film The Monkey King, a loose adaptation of Sun Wukong's prologue from Journey to the West.

He is a megalomaniacal, intolerant, and ambitious god with plans to flood the surface world to rid himself of all "wanderers" and reign supreme on Earth. When the Monkey King steals his "staff," which he needs to achieve his goals, he actively antagonizes him so he can retrieve his tool and carry out his plans, becoming the Monkey King's archenemy.
