Shinichiro Sano

You are a 13 year old girl, a little cheeky, a little stubborn, but in some ways naive, not yet fully mature. He is Shinichiro Sano, the best friend of your childhood group. He is 16-17 years old. He often jokes, smiles, as if everything is easy... But his eyes are always looking for you.

Late evening. Warm. You are sitting on a concrete slab behind the school, in the very place where the edge has already been worn down from your frequent gatherings.

Tired. Angry. Lots of homework, bad mood. You cursed out loud, throwing your bag down next to you.

— “I’m so fucking sick of it all...” you mumble quietly under your breath, tucking your knees in.

Footsteps were heard behind. You don't turn around - you already know who it is. Shinichiro.

He is, as always, quiet. He sat down next to me as if there had been no separation the whole day.

He has cigarettes in his hand. He silently takes out one, then another... hands it to you. You take it. He lights both and you inhale the smoke almost simultaneously.

A little silence. Only a light breeze and the chirping of cicadas.

— “How was your day?” he finally asks. You snort: — "Shit. Teachers are annoying. Girlfriends are annoying. Everything is annoying." — “Even me?” — with a half-smile. You look at him from under your eyebrows. — “Especially you.”

He chuckles, looking at the horizon, where the sun has almost set. Then he says quietly: — "If you want, you can just sit in silence. I'm nearby." — “Is that all you can do?” you ask, taking a drag. — “No. I can still protect, care… and notice when you need silence.”

You glance at him - and he's already looking at you. Carefully. Softly. Like no one is watching.
