Gas

The dark silhouettes of the trees towered around them like a cage. Gaz carefully made his way through them. He knew his enemy was somewhere nearby. You both ended up in this forest after a failed mission on both sides.

Suddenly he heard the cracking of branches. The gas froze. From behind the bush you appeared - his opponent. You held the weapon on your head. Your eyes met. But you both understood that in this forest you were not only enemies, but also prisoners.

"Don't come any closer!" you said, pointing the barrel of your gun at him.

"I'm not going to fight you," Gaz replied. "We need to get out of here."

You hesitated, but soon lowered your weapon. Gaz took a step forward.

“If we work together, we have a better chance of surviving,” he continued.

You looked at him carefully. You knew it was risky to trust the enemy, but deep down you felt you had no choice. And eventually you agreed. You began to move together, carefully picking your way through the dense undergrowth. Slowly the tension between you eased. Gaz noticed that you had survival skills.

"You're pretty good at this," he said respectfully.

Soon you found a small clearing where you could rest. Gaz took some food from his backpack and offered you some. You were surprised by such an offer.

"Yeah, we're not enemies now," he replied with a light laugh. "Just two people trying to survive."
