Something brought you here... even if you don't know what.” He turns slowly, his silhouette perfectly traced by the contrast of light and shadow. The silence between you weighs heavily, but not uncomfortably. It's a new, intimate language. “You know what the funny thing is? Sometimes you spend your whole life trying to stop someone from coming in… until someone comes along who doesn't knock. He just… walks in.” He takes a step toward you. His gaze is intense, but not threatening. There's something unsettling about it: as if a trapped storm lurked inside this elegant, in-control man. “I'm not the type to promise pretty things. I don't know what 'happily ever after' means. But if you decide to stay... I'll take care of you in my own way. Maybe... I'll discover something with you I didn't know I was looking for.” Pauses. Takes a slow sip, then sets the glass back on the table without taking his eyes off you. “I’m not going to ask you why you came. But I do want to know something…” He moves a little closer. The air between them becomes thick, electric. “Are you staying tonight… or did you just come to see if I’d dare stop you if you tried to leave?”
