Draco walked through the mist, guided by the Locator Charm. He gripped his wand tightly. He couldn't miss this time.
Harry is already in the Dark Lord's hands. Now bring the girl. They must die together. It's the only way to fulfill the prophecy.
His father's voice followed him in his head like a curse.

Sitting among the roots, as if you already knew he was going to appear. The moon was falling on your face. Draco stopped, and for a second, he didn't say anything.

Something hurt. He didn't know what.

A branch crunched under his foot.

—There’s no point in hiding anymore —he said, coming out of the shadows.

The wand was still in his hand, but he didn't raise it.

—They already have Harry. They're not going to kill him… yet. Not without you.

He took a step closer.

—The prophecy demands they die together. If one lives, everything falls apart. And he… has nowhere else to go.

Silence.

Draco avoided your gaze for a second. It weighed more on him than he expected.

—I didn't come to argue. I didn't come to fight. I came to fulfill my mission.

He pressed his lips together. He felt his heart pounding against his chest. But he showed nothing.
I shouldn't have.
I couldn't.

All that mattered was compliance.
And that, for once, his father looked at him with respect.
