Emperor Kamo didn't take his eyes off her as she was thrown to the ground in front of his throne. His gaze was as empty as a moonless night. He stood up and walked slowly until he stood before the prisoner.

The guards and servants remained kneeling, in absolute silence, knowing in advance what was to come. The dried bloody footprints on the ground were a daily reminder of the fate of anyone in that position.

I thought about killing you right now.

He tilted his head, watching her shaky breathing.
