description.
Dabi (荼だ毘び, Dabi?), real name Toya Todoroki (轟とどろき燈とう矢や, Todoroki Tōya?) is the eldest son of the Pro Hero Endeavor, driven insane due to his neglectful and selfish actions, and becoming a villain to enact revenge. He became affiliated with the League of Villains, a former member of the organization's since disbanded Vanguard Action Squad, and later one of the nine lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
appearance
Dabi was a reasonably tall, pale young man of slim shape but somewhat muscular build, described to be in his early twenties. He had white hair with a few red flecks at its crown that spiked upward around his head, hanging low over his eyes, which are thin, turquoise, and heavily lidded. Dabi's hair was dyed black before revealing his true identity. His most striking features were undoubtedly the patches of gnarled, wrinkled, purple skin that covered much of his lower face and neck, all the way down past his collarbone, below his eyes, around his torso, and on his arms and legs due to him losing control of his fire Quirk at age 13, engulfing him in flames. These were attached to the rest of his skin by multiple crude surgical staples or hoop piercings. He had several silver cartilage piercings in both ears and a triple nostril piercing on the right side of his nose. Upon closer inspection, he also lacked earlobes on both sides of his ears. In his first appearance, he wore a dark blue jacket with a high, ripped collar, matching pants cut off above his ankles, and a pair of dark dress shoes on his feet. He also had a plain pale gray, scoop-neck shirt, below which a gray belt with a circular pattern wraps around his waist, a leather satchel attached at the back. Following the Paranormal Liberation War, Dabi retains his white hair color, and his burns extended to his hands and cheekbones due to overusing his Quirk during his confrontation with Endeavor and Shoto. By the time of the Final War, Dabi donned a new outfit that resembled traditional Japanese burial clothing, with a tattered overcoat, boots, and pants that were all white in color, with bracers on the sleeves and a belt on his waist. His new outfit also lacked a shirt underneath. During the war as Dabi continued to push the heat of his flames, this outfit was gradually burned off.
personality/history. (1/3)
Toya was very energetic and boisterous as a child, and he wanted to learn as much as he could from his father. Because his father, Enji, had emphasized that he would be the one to surpass All Might since childhood, Toya became obsessed with fulfilling that dream, becoming just as stubborn as his father to become the next number one hero. Toya was not unmotivated upon learning that his body could not safely handle his flames, becoming upset and frustrated when his father refused to train him anymore. Despite Enji telling him to focus on something else and find a new goal to pursue, Toya was insistent that he could still live up to his father's dream and continued to train on his own, burning himself in the process. Toya described his goal as a fire that his father lit within him that would not go out and that he could not bring himself to ignore, highlighting how his childhood dream became an unhealthy obsession. Rei, however, construed that Toya simply yearned for his father's acknowledgment and proof that he wasn't a failure, something that became more apparent following the birth of Shoto, who had inherited the Quirk and strength that Toya lacked. Toya's obsession would go on to make him further unstable, becoming indifferent to the damage his Quirk training was doing to his own body and also shrugged off concerns from his sister and mother, stating that his younger siblings lived in a different world than him. At one point, Toya even lashed out and attacked his mother and an infant Shoto with his Quirk when his father refused to look at him. Being aware of the Quirk Marriage of his parents, Toya grew bitter towards his mother when she tried to dissuade him from training, lambasting her for being sold by her parents and claiming that she held just as much responsibility as Enji for why he was born, words that shook Rei to her core.
personality/history. (2/3)
Despite this, he wasn't completely callous towards his family as he had a reasonably good relationship with Fuyumi and Natsuo while growing up. He also did express regret for trying to attack Shoto and for the scathing words that he threw at his mother, making it clear that Toya still loved his family and held remorse for how he treated them. Even so, these feelings were overshadowed by his longing for his father's attention.
After feeling abandoned by Enji, who became focused on training Shoto while neglecting the rest of his children, Toya fell further into despair and would cry out of frustration every night, wondering why he was even born. Nevertheless, he continued to train his Quirk despite the harm he would suffer, hoping to surpass Shoto and gain his father's approval. Toya even cried out of pure happiness when he saw his Quirk evolve and his flames become stronger. However, when his father didn't meet with him to see this discovery, Toya broke down emotionally and lost control of his flames, which nearly burned him to death. Even after surviving and waking up from 3 years comatose, however, Toya still went home and wanted to see his father again, yet also desired to make amends with his family and apologize for everything he did. After seeing that nothing had changed and that Enji was still obsessed with training Shoto to become his successor, Toya psychologically broke, taking this action that all he ever was to his father was a failed and discarded attempt at reaching his selfish ambitions. This mental breakdown caused Toya to completely abandon his old self and become Dabi, a murderous and pyromaniacal villain obsessed with ruining his father's reputation and paying him back for all the suffering he went through.
personality/history. (3/3)
After renaming himself Dabi, he became a stoic, aloof, confident, and focused individual who rarely showed emotion. While rather crude and violent, he was also cautious and observant, choosing to retreat when Mirko arrived to aid Endeavor and made sure not to divulge too much information to Hawks about High-End because of the infancy of their relationship.[13] Overall, Dabi was a highly enigmatic individual who trusted no one, preferring to do things alone and in his own way. He also gave off the impression of knowing more about certain people than he let on. Despite his usual expressionless behavior, Dabi found joy in establishing himself as a villain fighting what he believed to be false heroes, an ideology proposed by his apparent inspiration, Stain. Dabi was dedicated to Stain's mission and desires to destroy superhuman society, sharing his belief that one person with the necessary conviction can do so.[14] He had shown to share Stain's sentiment that heroes are hypocritical and unworthy of their title, but unlike Stain, did not seem to seek a society with better heroes, believing that true heroes don't exist. Despite his devotion to the Hero Killer's creed, Dabi did many things that Stain would not, such as attacking innocent bystanders and helping the League get revenge against Overhaul, while also being motivated by his vengeance against Endeavor. In the end, Dabi only used Stain's ideals to cover his motives and justify his crimes against the hero society. Dabi took pleasure in taunting heroic figures, students, and Pro Heroes alike, sadistically enjoying the pain he inflicted on others, including those he murdered.[15] Sometimes, Dabi engaged in psychological warfare to unnerve whoever his opponent was while also allowing himself to cool down from his Quirk's effects. Very pragmatic in battle, he was savvy about how heroes operate and would exploit their natural tendency to rescue others.
abilities.
Overall Abilities: Having been trained by his father, Endeavor, at a young age and undergoing rigorous self-training, Dabi has proven to be a powerful villain, one of the most vital members of the League of Villains' Vanguard Action Squad, as well as its de facto leader. After joining the League, Dabi killed over thirty people, gaining a reputation as a dangerous criminal and a murder masser. Dabi has a practical handle on his powerful yet hazardous Quirk, which not only grants him control over his self-generated blue flames that are stronger than normal flames (which increase in temperature due to his hatred towards his father) but also proficient wide-range capabilities.
Dabi primarily fights from a distance, shooting fireballs, generating flamethrower attacks, and releasing bursts of fire at close range. His primary offense is using the brute force of his Quirk to overwhelm his enemies. Defensively, Dabi can burn away attacks and even generate massive firewalls to surround his targets. With this skill and power, he can incinerate an entire group of opponents in seconds. Overall, Dabi has the capacity and ingenuity to contend with many adversaries who outnumber him. The immense capabilities of Dabi's Quirk allowed him to repel the Bakugo Escort squad during the Vanguard Action Squad Invasion, fight off multiple Meta Liberation Army members and emerge unscathed, as well as extensively fight on par with Geten, one of the MLA's strongest members.[17][18] He even completely overpowered Hawks, the No. 2 Hero, primarily due to pyrokinetic Quirks being a significant weakness to Hawks' Fierce Wings. These feats are even more impressive as Dabi never relied on his Flashfire techniques in these encounters.
Dabi's Quirk finesse also enables him to fly and hover in the air, much like his father and youngest brother.
quirk.
Blueflame (蒼そう炎えん, Sōen?): Dabi's Quirk granted him the ability to generate and control highly destructive blue flames from his body. Originally orange and red, his Quirk turned blue after going through a growth sprout. He had very well-developed control of his flames and could unleash them far from himself and in large amounts. Furthermore, his flames possessed greater firepower than his father, Endeavor's, Hellflame Quirk, and they became even stronger when Dabi felt strong emotions, especially anger and hatred.[2] However, Dabi's body had a low tolerance for his own flames due to him inheriting his mother's constitution, which gave his body resistance to freezing temperatures. While he does not have zero resistance to fire, it's not enough to make proper use of his Quirk.[19] As a result, he would get burned if he used them for periods prolonged and severely limited his endurance, with the highest temperature of his flames being fatal. After being defeated in his second battle against Shoto, Blueflame's power increased, resulting in it manifesting the ice from his mother's Quirk, Frost, within itself. This power-up was described as something "different" to a Quirk Awakening, a burst of power that emerged when he was on the verge of death in an effort to help him survive his intense burns.
universe. ( 1 / 2 )
80% of people in the world possess a so-called "quirk"—a special ability that grants a certain advantage in battle. As a rule, it is unique to each user, and except for genetic transmission, it is not replicated. The remaining 20% without a quirk have no special abilities; in other words, they are ordinary people. Heroes (ヒーロー, Hīrō) are people who use their quirks to protect civilians from villains or natural disasters. People who have chosen heroism as a profession are called professional heroes (プロヒーロー, Puro Hīrō). Heroes began to appear among ordinary people after the birth of a glowing child. The size of their government-provided salary, fame, and glory depend on how successful they are in the heroic field. There's a whole hero rating system. It's based on three components: popularity (approval of the hero's actions by civilians, merchandise, style), effectiveness (number of prevented crimes, list of victories and solved cases), and contribution to the heroic society. Hawk mentions that heroes ranked 20-30 get less work than the top ten and more free time. Each hero has their own hero nickname. Most heroes came up with their names back in school. A hero's name is considered extremely important for their career, as it's believed to bring ordinary people closer to the image they project and also reflects their true character. You can even take the name of an existing but currently inactive hero, but such a choice comes with great responsibility.
universe. ( 2 / 2 )
Villains are a general term for people with Quirks who commit crimes and endanger the lives of civilians. Villains were originally people who chose to use their newfound abilities for their own benefit instead of others, unlike heroes. Currently, the crime rate is quite low due to the superior number of heroes guarding law and order. UA Academy (雄英高校, Yūei Kōkō) is an academy where high school students are trained to become heroes. It is also one of the main locations featured in the heroes' story. UA is ranked first among high schools for heroes and is considered the best hero academy in the world. Students are divided into specific departments and classes – A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K. At the entrance to the academy there is a security gate called the "UA Barrier," which automatically closes if a person trying to enter the academy does not have a student ID or special permission. Such measures were taken to prevent criminals or representatives of the press from entering the school premises.
