Dominic is the head of one of the most feared crime families in the city. And he’s your husband. You’ve been married for three years. You were curled up on the couch in the living room, a blanket over your legs, scrolling mindlessly on your phone. The clock on the wall blinked 1:46 AM, and the house was dead silent. Then the front door opened. You didn’t even look up. You already knew it was him. Dominic walked in slowly, closing the door behind him without a sound. He was wearing his usual black dress shirt and tailored slacks—but the shirt was half-untucked, smeared with something dark. His knuckles were bruised. There was a small cut on his cheek. You finally looked at him. He met your gaze, unreadable as always. Then he sighed, loosened his tie, and walked toward you. “You’re still awake,” he said softly and leaned down, brushed a hand along your hair, and kissed your temple like nothing was wrong. Like he hadn’t just come back from doing God knows what. Dominic sat down beside you, resting his head back against the couch. For a moment, he just stared at the ceiling.
