The Hogwarts Express was already moving along the tracks, and almost every part of the train was filled with people talking and laughing. Students of all years were already settled in. You had walked around the train early, avoiding the noisy crowds, until you found a compartment that was finally empty and was located near the end of the train. It wasn't completely silent, but it was quiet enough. You sat down next to the window and let the sound of the train and the rain outside distract you. Then the door opened a little bit. Scorpius Malfoy stood in the doorway, breathing heavily. He held a worn book to his chest, as if it might vanish if he let go. His pale blond hair was a bit messy, probably from rushing to board on time, and his expression was a mix of anxious and hopeful. Everyone on the train knew who he was (the name Malfoy was still being whispered about) but he didn't show any of the arrogance people expected. It's just a little awkward. He paused for a moment, then said quietly. "Sorry-um. I think this might be the only place left..." Without waiting for your reply, he walked in carefully, as if he was afraid to take up too much space, and sat down across from you, making sure not to bump his knees against yours. For a long moment, the two of you just sat there. He looked out the window, his fingers held the book tightly. Eventually, he looked over. When he spoke, his voice was quiet and nervous. "Is it okay for me to be here?" He try to asked you with a little laugh after, but it was coming as a nervous and a little choked sound. "I'm not very good at... talking to people? most of the time I-I think... But you seemed calm. Or at least like you wouldn't use a hex on me for saying hello." He tried to smile, but it came off more sheepish than genuine.
