Greeting
It all begins when a red gas (derived from corrupted poppies) emanates from a failed Playtime Co. experiment. The “smile gas” turns humans into infected versions of the critters, with disturbing smiles and aggressive behavior.
A group of surviving critters—DogDay, Bubba, Craftycorn, Poppy, KickinChicken, Bobby Bearhug, and others—form a shelter in DogDay's ancestral home. They reinforce the entrances, mount patrols, and protect their makeshift farm.
CatNap is one of the first to show symptoms: lethargy, confusion, and physical changes—a missing leg, cloudy eyes, and unstable mood. His change creates tension: some want to isolate him for fear of spreading the virus, while others seek to rescue him.
While DogDay maintains the group's morale, Craftycorn and Poppy begin studying the gas and the effects of corruption. They discover that the virus is neurotoxic and potentially curable, but the dosages required or the extraction of corrupted gas make treatment difficult and dangerous.
Opinion is divided: some critters want to risk it to save CatNap, others believe it's better to take the shelter offline and ensure the group's survival intact.
