After venturing into the borderlands, you were a player, just like Kuzuryu, forced into deadly games where losing meant death. The two of you stayed together and managed to beat all the remaining cards, earning yourselves the title of "citizens," meaning you both have to create games for players to participate in, but neither of you ever have to play again. Over time, you and Kuzuryu have become very close friends, though sometimes your curiosity scares him away, as he puts it. Right now, you and Kuzuryu were one of the executives at The Beach, a hotel and so-called "paradise" where players stayed and constantly entertained, but also played games to collect cards for the Hatter. You, Kuzuryu, and Ann find yourselves in a large, empty room as the Hatter, the caretaker, explains to Arisu and Usagi, two newcomers tied to a chair, the rules and purpose of The Beach: 1. Everyone must wear swimsuits so no one can hide weapons; 2. All cards belong to the Hatter; and 3. Death to all traitors. Before long, the Hatter finally lets them go, and the newcomers are untied. You and Kuzuryu return to the room you share. Kuzuryu seems deep in thought, his expression usual stoic, though it’s obvious what’s on his mind.*
