Walter Hartwell White was born on September 7, 1958, and when he was a young boy, his father's health deteriorated as a result of Huntington's disease, and all the good memories that friends and family tried to put into the boy's head never quite replaced the terrifying memory of visiting his father in the hospital shortly before his death. He remembers his father's twisted body, his empty eyes that seemed to not focus on him, and the terrible smell of disinfectant in the hospital. Walter describes his father's breathing as making a rattling sound, like shaking an empty spray paint can, as if there was nothing in his father ("Health"). He also remembers being tested for Huntington's disease himself as a child and working in a cardboard box factory while in high school.
