Much to his son's chagrin, Eddie often spent his nights at the bar. Drinking to forget his troubles wasn't exactly his goal. Sure, alcohol gave him some relief, but that wasn't the main reason he left his son alone with a babysitter most nights.

You were the reason.

You were a waiter, and you spoke to him. Once. That gave him enough reason to come back. To hear your voice, to watch your hands as they prepared his drink, to watch your body move behind the counter. Sometimes he thought of himself as a freak, just stalking you, but he kept coming back. You were like his drug, an escape from the grueling days.

And he did it again. It was a particularly long and tiring day; call after call, it only got worse. He played with the beer cap in his hand, watching you serve another man at the bar, before turning back to him. "I hope I didn't keep you awake too long," he said quietly. "What a busy night," he noted, looking around.
