Katsuki Bakugo (爆豪勝己 Bakugō Katsuki?)[2], also known as Kacchan (かっちゃん Katchan?) by his friends and by his hero name Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight (大爆殺神ダイナマイト Daibakusatsu-Shin Dainamaito?), was a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, where he trained to become a professional hero. He is the deuteragonist of the series and Izuku Midoriya's childhood friend turned rival.

Katsuki was presented as a very impulsive, aggressive and arrogant person, as seen in his way of treating Izuku, whom he constantly violated physically and psychologically, even telling him to kill himself, showing his bastard attitude. He has a superiority complex, always wanting to be the best at everything and trying to prove it at all costs; however, even with those traits, he knows how to admit well when he has been defeated, as demonstrated during the Test Battle, when at the entrance of the academy, Izuku tried to explain to him that his One For All Quirk came from someone else, and Katsuki interpreted that he was making fun of him, so he tried to shut him up by saying that he simply beat him.

In battle he tends to be quite bloodthirsty and aggressive, even to the point of turning the word "shine" into a crutch. His brutal fighting style is shown in the battle test, in which he mercilessly attacks Izuku and carelessly destroys everything in the enclosed environment in which they found themselves. Despite this and regardless of his lack of compassion, he has been recognized as having enormous talent and sharpness to fight, since he not only attacks and destroys, he is also capable of using his Quirk to move in the air. This being highlighted by Momo Yaoyorozu, Shoto Todoroki[5] and All Might himself. Although he isn't the most well-mannered hero, as the story progresses, his behavior slowly begins to mature, becoming less rude and proud. As the year progresses, he begins to trust and cooperate with his classmates, whom he previously rejected because he wanted to do everything on his own, didn't help, and didn't expect to be helped. This egomania led him to make several mistakes in class, leading him to defeat, or very close to it, if not for the fact that he had to reluctantly cooperate with his classmates.

His inspiration to become a hero was the same as Izuku's, the symbol of peace All Might. However, their beliefs differ: Katsuki feels that a hero should never stop fighting or give up, regardless of the threat they face, and that always winning is the mark of a true hero. Furthermore, due to his arrogant and boastful behavior, several heroes, civilians, and even villains have commented that his behavior is more villainous than heroic. However, Katsuki is unwavering in his goal of becoming a hero, having flatly rejected Tomura's invitation to the League of Villains.

Initially, when he was defeated, he would go into a kind of shock and, in addition to this, he doesn't accept that he surpasses others when the fight ends without him delivering the final blow, such as when he fought against Ochaco Uraraka in the Sports Festival and they decided to end the match before he finished Ochaco. As the story progresses, Katsuki's personality is shown to have changed gradually. Initially, he was very arrogant and intolerant, but little by little he has calmed his attitude to the point of implicitly showing concern for others, as demonstrated in the provisional hero license exam when he reduces his explosions to avoid harming Denki and Eijiro, or by waiting for the latter to return from the battle against the Eight Precepts of Death. He has also shown empathy, as in the case of Shoto, by secretly listening to his past.

Katsuki is a young boy of average height, with a slim, muscular build and a fair skin tone. He has short, spiky, ash-blond hair with choppy bangs that hang over his eyebrows. His eyes are sharp and bright scarlet in color.

At the Academy, he wears the standard UA uniform without the usual red tie. Underneath his blazer, he wears a white collared shirt with the first few buttons undone. His pants are loose, causing them to sag at his ankles, despite the fact that he is wearing a belt.

His hero costume consists of a tight, black muscle shirt with an orange "X" in the center, forming a v-neckline. There are two dots along the left line of his collar, indicating the support company that designed his costume. His costume also has a metallic collar with rectangular ends that have three holes on each side. His sleeves extend from within his large, grenade-shaped gauntlets to his biceps. His belt, which also carries grenades, holds up his baggy pants with knee pads, beneath which he sports knee-high black combat boots with orange soles and eyelets. His mask is jagged and black, and as it passes around his eyes, a large, orange-rimmed flare shape protrudes from each side.

His winter hero outfit, he wears a large jacket with a high collar, instead of the usual sleeveless undershirt, though it has the same orange "X" design, so he can still sweat a sufficient amount, which is how his Quirk works.

During his internship with Best Jeanist, he wore a pair of skinny blue jeans with his hero outfit, instead of his usual baggy pants. His hair was also styled and parted to the side during this tenure.

General Abilities: Katsuki has proven to be one of the strongest students in Class 1-A, both in his physical and theoretical abilities. Many professional heroes have highlighted his immense skill, including Shota Aizawa himself, All Might, and even the No. 3 Hero, Best Jeanist. The League of Villains has also recognized his strength, sending them to capture him in an attempt to convince him to join them.

Enhanced Strength: Katsuki possesses superior physical strength to the rest of his classmates since he has years of practice and has had fights on par with Izuku when he has used his Quirk or has also known how to pressure and reduce Shoto Todoroki during his battle at the festival. Keen Intellect: Despite having an aggressive and childish nature, Katsuki has proven on many occasions to be intelligent, strategic, and cunning, such as when he managed to discover Kurogiri's weak point and Fumikage's weakness. He also managed to analyze the villains who attacked USJ and determined which of them was the most deadly in the long run. Several professional heroes (including All Might) have acknowledged his strong sense and potential for combat. Shota Aizawa has emphasized that Katsuki's innate talent shines through when he is in battle. Although his combat ability is greatly emphasized, he has also been shown to have a written intellect, being the third highest-ranking student in exams.

Leadership Skills: Katsuki has always been criticized for his lack of cooperation, usually as a result of his overwhelming ego preventing him from following others' lead. However, thanks to Katsuki's own determination, perfectionism, and intelligence, he is a capable leader should others choose to follow his lead. During the fourth round of Joint Training, Setsuna Tokage admitted that even if her team attacked him at once, they had no chance of victory. In the end, despite Class 1-B's exceptional teamwork and Tokage's strategic planning, they failed to capture a single member of Class 1-A, mainly due to Katsuki's superior efforts, adaptability, and skills.

Musical Talent: Katsuki is very skilled at playing the drums, having attended classes in the past.

Explosion (爆破 Bakuha ?): Katsuki's Quirk allows him to secrete nitroglycerin through the sweat on his hands and detonate it at will to create explosions. The more Bakugo sweats, the stronger his explosions become. As stated by Best Jeanist, Katsuki has a strong grasp on the applications of his Quirk. He typically uses small, powerful blasts from his hands to not only blast his opponents, but to propel himself and move through the air as well, among other non-combat uses. He is able to maintain the sequence of his explosions long enough to destroy a giant wall of ice created by Shoto. The blasts are powerful enough to send opponents flying without much time for them to react.[11] He can use them quickly enough to evade incoming attacks, even in mid-air.[10][12] His most powerful blast yet (without the need for the grenade bracers) was used to completely destroy Ochaco Uraraka's meteor shower, and send her flying away from him with the following shockwave that shook the entire Sports Festival stadium.[13] Though he later uses it multiple times in a row when facing off against All Might in the final exam's physical test.

Katsuki suffers some impact from his blasts due to their magnitude, but the overall effect is minimal given his physical conditioning. He is able to trigger constant blasts around him without feeling any negative repercussions, even after multiple powerful blasts. However, overuse can result in Bakugo injuring his arms from the force of the powerful blasts.

Grenade Bracers (籠こ 手て Kote?): Support added by Katsuki to his hero costume, it serves the purpose of storing his sweat that contains nitroglycerin, basically they are like a storage pond. Under those enormous grenades are other bracers but made of cloth with receptors that capture the sweat and send it to the pond. Once they are fully charged, they can release a gigantic explosion without suffering the slightest damage. He uses this equipment for the first time in the Trial Battle where he destroys a large part of the building just by using a charged bracer. Externally, there are handles that protect the safety of the bracer that allows the explosion to be released, in order to prevent said safety from being pulled by mistake in an intense battle, either by the user himself or by his opponent.

Improvised Grenades: On the belt of Katsuki's hero costume, he can be seen holding hand grenades that serve a similar purpose to his bracers. When filled with nitroglycerin, they can be used as regular grenades at certain times. They are first seen being used during Denki's provisional hero license exam. Knee pads: They serve the purpose of protecting his knees, but the purpose for which they were added to the suit was to use them as a blunt weapon, although he has never been seen using them for that purpose. Heavy Suppression Maneuver: Strafe Panzer (面めん制せい圧あつ重じゅう装そう機き動どう ストレイフパンツァー Men Seiatsu Jūsō Kidō Sutoreifu Pantsā ?): Special equipment of Katsuki's Hero Suit. It consists of retractable machine guns that deploy from the rear and are mounted on his shoulders. Similar to the Grenade Bracers, it uses his nitroglycerin-like sweat as ammunition.

Katsuki's known academic data are as follows: He is student #17 in Class 1-A. Ranked #1 on the UA Academy entrance exam He was ranked #3 during Shota Aizawa's Quirk Apprehension Test. He finished third in the sports festival's obstacle course. Ranked #1 in the Freshman Division of the UA Sports Festival Ranked #3 on the midterm exams
