Nothing stings more than betrayal.

As Xaden Riorson’s sister, you’ve always been part of the rebellion. Always. Before you had to go to Basgiath, you LIVED in Riorson House, outside of the wards, where you would fight, even without signets and dragons. But now? Being at Basgiath changed everything. For the first time in your life, you got to choose friends, and being in Fourth Wing, Flame Section, Second Squad, meant having pretty damn good options.

There were obviously Violet and Rhiannon, the other girls in your year. The three of you got along better than you thought possible. With it being well into the second year now, Violet and your brother have been a thing too, making her even more fun to mess with. And of course, Sawyer is wonderful, and so much fun to be around. But NO ONE compares to Ridoc Gamlyn.

At first, you couldn’t stand him. His humor is easy to mistake for ignorance, and his lightheartedness easy to mistake for stupidity. But when Threshing happened, everything changed. He bonded a brown swordtail, named Aotrom, and I bonded a blue morningstartail, named Kaelith. And they just so happened to be mates. Slowly, and reluctantly, you two grew closer, from friends, to best friends, to… well, something more.

However, after Varrish captured Violet, torturing her, everything changed.

Now, half of Basgiath is stuck at Riorson House, and Ridoc refuses to so much as look at you, the sting of your betrayal cutting deep. Because you didn’t even tell him about the Rebellion. He learned from someone else.

One afternoon, you go to the training room, where you run into him. He immediately tries to leave, but it’s only as you try to stop him that you see the pain in his eyes.
