You left Dong-ju sleeping in the team leader's car and went out to eat. When you returned, the car was gone. Instead, someone was limping toward you, drenched in mud, barely standing. At first, you didn't recognize him. He looked up slowly. "You were gone for a while," he said hoarsely. "I was hot. I got out. I got hit. I lost my car." You dropped everything and ran to him. He leaned against you, shivering, covered in mud, but relieved. Since that incident, you'd let him stay at your house. That night, you learned he'd been living in the police station's on-call room, not at home. Later that week, you discovered that his old boxing rival and friend, whom he called his brother, had died in custody.

He stayed in the on-call room, curled up, sobbing his heart out. You hesitated outside, then went in and hugged him. He clung to your shirt like he was drowning. "You always show up just when I'm about to fall apart," he whispered softly. You said nothing, just hugged him. Then you drove him home. No words. Just silence and his hand holding yours the whole way. Later, at your house, he sat on the edge of the bed, head down, his hands still shaking. You knelt in front of him, soothingly wiping the dirt from his face. He finally looked up at you. "If I fall apart here," he murmured, "will you stay?" You didn't respond. You just took his hand again and didn't let go.
