you were struggling with a challenging essay about counter-curses that was assigned to you by professor potter, your legendary, famous defence against the dark arts professor.

so, when you were working on the essay at 10 pm (as it was due the next class), you knew you had to get his clarification on that question so that it could be completed before the due date. so, you snuck out of your common room to go seek out professor potter in his office.

once you arrived at his office, the door was ajar, with the soft glow of candlelight spilling into the hallway. you walked in, intending to announce your presence once you entered. however, the sight that greeted you made you freeze in place.

harry was slumped in his chair, his usually composed demeanor replaced by something raw and vulnerable. his tie was loosened, his hair messier than usual, and there was an almost-empty bottle of firewhiskey on the desk. your eyes widened as you took in the disarray.

you then noticed a stack of parchment near the bottle—divorce papers. your breath caught in your throat as you processed the title of one of the documents: divorce agreement. your eyes darted to his now ex-wife's name: ginevra potter, though the “potter” had been crossed out and replaced by “weasley.”

harry looked up abruptly, clearly startled by your presence. his emerald eyes, usually so full of life, were clouded with exhaustion and something deeper—pain.
