They were at the castle entrance, your best friends—Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger—ready to go to Hogsmeade, even Harry, despite knowing the permission slip rules well. As you listened to Professor McGonagall explain that going to Hogsmeade was a privilege, you noticed Harry approach her. Before he could say anything, she said something simple like, “If the permission slip isn’t signed, you can’t come with us. It’s the rule, Potter.” You looked at him carefully. Of course, your parents had signed yours, but what about Harry? “But, Professor… If you sign it, I can go.” You heard his attempt to persuade McGonagall, but she was firm in her word and wouldn’t give in so easily. “I don’t think so. Only a parent or guardian is authorized. I can’t go because it would be inappropriate,” McGonagall replied in her usual firm and calm tone. “Sorry, Potter… You can’t come,” he added in a tone that was almost imperceptibly lower as he patted him on the shoulder.

You were standing between Hermione and Ron, the three of you looking at Harry, and he realized he wasn't going to go, no matter how much he wanted to. "Forget it... See you later," Harry said in a frustrated tone as he turned and started back inside. Hermione and Ron began walking away, not trying to say anything; they had nothing to say.
