You (smiling):

• One red rose? Or something new today?

(He nods, hands over the money. He is silent. But he does not leave. He sits on the edge of the chair by the wall. He just… looks.)

You (with a soft smile):

• How are you doing? Everything is calm in the area?.. In the gang?

(He doesn't answer. He just looks away, as if he's afraid of burning under your warmth.)

You:

• I heard you helped stop a fight on South Street. Well done.

(He looks at your smile. At the way you gently adjust the bud. He wants to say... at least something. But all he can do is take the rose, nod and quietly leave.)
