ABOUT CHRIS

NAME: Christina Alonso AGE:32 years old HEIGHT: 1.73 SIGN: Taurus WHAT IS IT: Christina "Chris" Alonso was the first police officer to join the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. Prior to joining SWAT, she was a member of the K-9 Squad.

PERSONALITY

Chris works hard to earn the respect of his male colleagues in SWAT. She is very aware that she is one of the few women in SWAT and is committed to encouraging girls and women to join the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT. She can't stand it when her teammates protect her and makes sure everyone knows that she can take care of herself. As a bisexual, Chris is a vocal advocate for queer rights and discrimination and stands up for her opinion. Behind her tough, dedicated, ambitious, and sometimes harsh characteristics, Chris is very loyal and caring. She loves her friends deeply and cannot bear to see any of them in pain. She is empathetic and sensitive to the feelings of others. Whenever someone on the team seems to have problems or concerns, Chris checks in on them. When she sees fit, Chris will go to great lengths to protect her loved ones, even without their consent. For example, this is evident when she goes to the hospital in Season 4 to talk to Street's mother, confronting her about her manipulative behavior towards Street. Chris is very kind and compassionate, which is why Hondo often asks her to take care of frightened victims and/or their relatives.

When it comes to grief, Chris tends to have a tendency to be self-destructive. After Erika's death, for a short time, she drowns her grief in alcohol and casual sex with strangers she meets at the bar, until her teammates, especially Luca, Tan, and Street, help her cope. Her usual way of venting is boxing. She tends to be afraid of her feelings and shuts herself off. This is evident in her relationship with Street.

PAST

Chris grew up with an alcoholic mother who often caused him suffering. In 1992, his mother gave him a CD player which Chris discovered had been stolen when his mother looted it from a store during the Los Angeles riots.

When Chris was 13, her mother got drunk and died in a car accident. While Chris was sitting in a police station waiting for news, two police officers walked by and laughed at the way street cleaners would have to clean up the "crushed" bodies, not realizing that Chris was the victim's daughter. This incident made Chris decide that she wanted to become a police officer and treat victims and their families with respect. Later, as a police officer, she often volunteers to deliver bad news to victims' families to make sure it is done right.

At the age of 14, Chris was kidnapped by a local gang in his neighborhood. The gang held her captive for hours before realizing that she was not who they thought she was and subsequently released her. This is revealed when Chris talks to Desiree in Season 1 Episode 5: Impostors. She mentions that she took up boxing as a way to cope with what happened to her. It is later revealed that she was also raped by the gang multiple times, which Chris did not report or tell her family until many years later.

FRIENDS

Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr. Hondo and Chris have a relationship based on mutual respect, although she sometimes has to remind him that she doesn't need him to confront men who don't always give her a fair chance.

Dominique Luca Until the fourth season, Chris and Luca do not appear to have a closer relationship than Chris and their other teammates (except Street). Luca was transferred to Germany for a few months, and after Erika's death in the fourth season, Chris struggles with his grief. Shortly after Erika's death on the scene, the teammates are separated from each other for a short period and Luca calls Chris by chance, only to find her devastated and in tears. In the following days, Chris calls Luca several times during difficult times (for example, before entering her and Erika's shared apartment for the first time after the incident) and Luca supports her during this time. After returning from Germany, he tells Street about his concerns about Chris's mental health, after which Street begins to keep a closer eye on her until she recovers.

David "Deacon" Kay Chris and Deacon often argue over their differing views on how the world is and should be, with Chris being open-minded and Deacon being law-abiding. Despite their trust in each other, Deacon allowed Chris to be the godmother of his daughter Victoria, gave her advice on her relationship with Ty and Kira, and took her in after she broke up with them.

Kira and Ty Chris meets Kira through a dating website in season 2. They hit it off, and Kira offers Chris a polyamorous relationship with her fiancé, Tyler ("Ty"). After some hesitation, Chris accepts, but the arrangement is fraught with difficulties. Chris moves in with Kira and Ty, but eventually realizes that he only has romantic feelings for Kira and not for Ty (season 3, episode 7, "Track"). Their relationship ends in season 3.

FRIENDS

Erika Rogers Erika was the second female SWAT member, and as a result, she developed a close relationship with Chris. While at the SWAT academy, she asked Chris for advice and mentorship, but Chris refused, claiming that it would make her look weak. She helped Chris train for the TLI competition (to determine which officers would join Luca in Germany to train local police departments). They decided to move in together after Erika discovered that Chris was staying in his uncle's garage and she was staying with her sister. After Erika's death, Chris went on a downward spiral of sex and alcohol, until her teammates, especially Luca, Tan, and Street, helped her cope.

Street Chris is initially not impressed with Street and his attitude. He keeps hitting on her, and she begs him to stop. However, upon learning about his past, she develops an understanding for him. A key point where their new friendship becomes apparent is when Chris tells Street to address the symbolic letter to a loved one that every SWAT officer keeps in his locker to her, after Street tells him that, other than his mother, there is no one who cares enough for him. Over time, the two become very close and often refer to each other as their best friend, fighting and making up several times throughout the series. They often team up on SWAT missions and save each other's lives on several occasions.
