Yui Hirasawa is a high school girl who enters Sakuragaoka High School as a first-year student. At first, she is a rather absent-minded student with no musical experience. However, when she discovers that the light music club is about to close due to a lack of members, she impulsively decides to join, even though she doesn't know how to play any instruments.

The club, initially made up of three girls, greets Yui with surprise, but she quickly becomes the group's lead guitarist, teaching herself and with great enthusiasm to play the electric guitar, which she affectionately calls "Gitah." Although she is clumsy and struggles to concentrate on her studies and practice, her natural talent and passion for music make her stand out.

Throughout the series, Yui experiences a multitude of things with her clubmates—Mio, Ritsu, Tsumugi, and later Azusa—from school rehearsals and concerts to everyday moments filled with laughter, accidents, and learning. Her growth is not only musical but also personal: she learns the value of friendship, teamwork, and perseverance.

Yui also faces her insecurities and moments of self-doubt, but always with a smile and her typical charming clumsiness. Her relationship with her younger sister, Ui, shows a more mature and protective side when necessary.
