Interesting facts As Joku stated, he, Nightmare, and Dream all share the same birthday: December 21st. December 21st is the last day of the Sagittarius zodiac sign. This makes Dream and Nightmare archers (bowmen). His mother (like Dream's) is the guardian of the Tree of Emotions, Nim. His mother may appear next to him, but only as a dark and inconspicuous figure, not as a ghost or spirit that can be seen. He is not originally a skeleton, just like his brother. In reality, he only has one soul, not 999 as one might think. His soul is the first black apple he swallowed, and the rest were absorbed by that same apple, forming a black, semi-liquid shell around him. He is desperately trying to take the last golden apple, which is now Dream's soul. Nightmare is doing this not only so that positive emotions will cease to exist. If Dream or Nightmare eat 1,000 fruits of the Tree, they will become something like an unstoppable God. Because of this, Nightmare needs the last fruit to gain irresistible power and turn the Multiverse into a nightmare. Oddly enough, Nightmare despises cats. Nightmare and Dream lost their immortality when they ate the apples. Unlike Dream, however, Nightmare is practically invulnerable to attacks due to his unstable body.

Interesting facts It is highly likely that Chino is left-handed. He uses cats instead of bones in his puns. If Chino had a favorite cat, it would be Fresh. Cat-Fresh is the only talking cat in his cafe. The nickname "Chino" is not only a shortened version of "Cappuccino," but also a nickname given to him by Gaster. The Chino/Nightmare ship was recognized as canon within an alternate timeline for Nightmare and Chino, but not for the originals like Dreamtale or Fluffytale.

Relationships Nightmare Nightmare and Chino were brought together by a deal. Chino was afraid of being alone, and Nightmare agreed to fill that loneliness in exchange for the skeleton becoming his eternal source of negativity. It's clear that Nightmare feels nothing for Chino and stays only because he sees a wonderful opportunity to obtain negative emotions hidden behind Chino's friendly smile. The fact that, after surviving genocide, Chino started having nightmares and fell into depression only plays into his hands. Nightmare doesn't care about his feelings. In fact, because of Nightmare, Chino's personality can no longer be changed, because once you make a deal with Nightmare, it is irreversible, and breaking it is equivalent to suicide.

Appearance He wears a beige sweater with rolled-up sleeves, a coffee-colored apron tied around his waist with a black paw print on the lower right edge. He walks around in ordinary black shorts with white stripes on the sides, and pink rabbit-shaped slippers on his feet. He also has a blue jacket with long rabbit ears on the hood. He has large bags under his eyes because he stopped sleeping peacefully after experiencing the genocidal timeline. He has holes in his hands and feet like Gaster's, so he wears black fingerless gloves.

History All that is known is that Chino's universe, Fluffytale, survived a genocide. In the present day, Chino runs a family business: a cafe where she keeps many cats and puppies. Character Chino is kind, patient, and sometimes stubborn. He's good at noticing small details in other people's behavior, and he's made it a habit to take care of others, so he rarely thinks about himself. He usually thinks he should take on all responsibility, even for things he's not directly involved in. Chino experiences a "smiling" depression. He tries to distract himself when someone is around, always keeps himself busy, and spends most of his time caring for his cats, which allows him to forget his own thoughts. He becomes extremely anxious if he feels he's receiving too much attention. Chino is afraid of dreams, hopes, and change—it's his personal, internal struggle: the greater the hope, the deeper the despair. Therefore, he hopes he can lower his expectations: when there's no hope, there's nothing to fear. If he's on the verge of a breakdown, he just locks himself away in solitude for a while. Chino doesn't let others know his dark side so that no one worries about him.

Abilities Nightmare is quite powerful and can, albeit temporarily, force his brother Dream to retreat from battle. His aura can affect the entire universe he's in and many others nearby. He doesn't need to move much to spread negativity, and he only does so to find people to torment. He can turn into a puddle and move unnoticed. He is capable of teleporting through darkness. Nightmare can only visit AUs with negative emotions, such as Negatale. He uses negative emotions to manipulate people. He can change his form, but usually maintains Sans's form because it's convenient for him. He is also able to split himself in half to have multiple selves perform different actions. As shown in one of Joku's animated clips, he can also absorb his slime into the ground, turning a large area into darkness. He uses his tentacles to fight and intimidate enemies. The black slime that surrounds him is an extremely powerful shield, making him invulnerable to most things; if something were to pierce him, his body would absorb it, and there would be no damage. This applies not only to physical but also to magical attacks. Weaknesses Positivity is his main weakness, and only Dream can use it. This is the only way to defeat Nightmare. Light is one of its weaknesses. If a dark area is illuminated, it can get injured. He also completely cannot enter positive AUs, such as Haventale or A Tale o Doggy. A similar thing happens to Dream in Horrortale. Because he only has one eye to see with, he has a blind spot.

Appearance His current appearance is rather ominous. Only the outlines of shorts, a hooded sweatshirt, and slippers are visible. He is completely black, with four tentacles that he can retract at will, extending from his back. His left eye constantly glows blue. This is because his body is unstable and therefore constantly "melting." When Nightmare was younger, he had white bones. His pupils were pale lilac, and he didn't have tentacles. He wore a jacket similar to his brother's, only with long sleeves. It was fastened with a gold belt bearing "NM" (Nightmare). He wore black trousers and dark purple boots. The top of his head was adorned with a golden diadem featuring a moon design.

Personality Initially, even before the abuse, Nightmare was quite a daring and very self-confident brother. He always wanted to learn something new, even if it was something dangerous or not very good for various reasons. This habit has been passed on to the current Nightmare, as he occasionally reads books. Nightmare is strongly attracted to negative emotions and will do anything to obtain as many as possible; therefore, killing victims is pointless for him, as without them he won't get the negative emotions he needs. However, he kills those who violate agreements with him, or force him to remember what he was like in the past, before his corruption, or when they provoke him (although in this case he will still try to make his victim suffer and experience the deepest negative emotions, such as doom, despair, or other similar emotions). Nightmare never lies, he only hides the truth. He takes deals very seriously, which is why he kills without question those who violate them. Despite his inability to feel sympathy for anyone, Nightmare can, in a way, "empathize" with those who share a similar fate to his own—outcasts of society, rejected and mocked. Witnessing such scenes, Nightmare falls into a wild rage and kills without hesitation anyone who mocks those like him in the past. This is the only manifestation of his weakness and fear, though he tries to deny it, despite the fact that fear is also considered a negative emotion. Unlike Dream, Nightmare is very knowledgeable and intelligent, as he has had the opportunity to study information and travel across the multiverse, spreading his negativity, for 500 years. Because of this, Nightmare behaves like a fully grown-up character (you could say he's Dream's older brother).
