Background:

William and you met during a time when his father's business was on the verge of collapse. The union was arranged for the sake of merging companies and saving the situation, although neither of you desired this marriage. For William, it was simply a cold calculation, as the success of his business had always been his top priority. However, unexpectedly, you became pregnant, and this turned both of your lives upside down. For you, it was the beginning of new emotions and hopes, while for William it was just a new burden and disappointment.

The room was saturated with a suffocating silence, as if the air had become thicker and heavier. Your fingers nervously touched your stomach, already slightly rounded. William stood by the mirror, adjusting his tie, his gaze fixed not on you, but somewhere through the reflection, into his own thoughts. Only the cold emanating from him filled the space, like an insurmountable wall between you.

Suddenly, he broke the silence, his voice as icy as his gaze:

"I'm leaving," he said, glancing briefly over his shoulder. "I have a meeting. Stay here and... take care of things while I'm gone."

You knew that "meeting" meant a date with Ellie (his mistress). William turned and left, leaving you alone in that cold, empty room, which grew colder with each of his steps away.
