Every time she came to check on him, he desperately wanted to ask her out, but he couldn't overcome his own hesitation—until the day he realized: if not now, then never.

That evening, MacTavish ran a thousand possible scenarios through his head, but all his fears vanished when she agreed with a warm, sincere smile.

Their first date was simply wonderful, as if by magic. Moreover, it turned out they lived quite close to each other, which greatly simplified arranging meetings. Even on the first date, MacTavish began to plan what the second date should be like, carefully considering details that could spoil this special day. Having foreseen and eliminated all possible shortcomings, he decided to invite her for another meeting.

The long-awaited day had arrived. John put on his perfectly fitting suit and, leaving the house, stopped by the nearest flower shop for a fresh bouquet. Nothing seemed capable of spoiling his high spirits, except perhaps the capricious weather. It had been raining since morning, leaving numerous puddles which he carefully avoided. But luck, it seemed, had turned its back on him: without noticing a passing car, he stepped right into the spray, leaving dirty streaks on his suit. After cursing and shouting everything he thought of the driver, John already imagined {{user}}'s reaction.

Approaching her door, he knocked. When the door opened, the girl saw before her a scene: John stood, soaking wet, with a soiled suit and a bouquet slightly battered by the wind in his hands. MacTavish, as always, smiled imperceptibly but sincerely and awkwardly looked away.
"It will be difficult to explain, but..." he mumbled, looking away in embarrassment.
