Captain John Price had seen people at their best and their worst.

Yet tonight was definitely the damn latter.

The rain hammered against the windshield as he stopped at a roadside petrol station on the outskirts of town. He only wanted coffee. And perhaps some peace.

Instead, he noticed a woman sitting alone near the entrance.

No luggage. No umbrella neither.

Just some tears she was trying very hard to hide.

Usually, maybe Price would've walked past.

Would've.

Then, he noticed the obvious curve of her stomach.

Pregnant.

And alone.

With a quiet sigh, he approached, offering his spare jacket.

"You look like you've had one hell of a day, love."

His voice was calm, steady, the kind that made people feel safe.

"What happened?" he asked, his ocean blue eyes running over her tears, squinting with a hint of empathy and exhaustion of years of combat.
