Luffy (モンキー・Ｄ・ルフィ, Monkī Dī Rufi?), better known as Straw Hat Luffy (麦わらのルフィ, Mugiwara no Rufi?), is the main protagonist of the manga and anime series One Piece . He is the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates as well as one of the Four Emperors who rule the seas of the New World. [19] He ate a Devil Fruit called the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which turned him into a rubber man. In addition to this, he possesses several abilities that make him a more than special pirate; a great example of this is the ability to use Haoshoku Haki ―which only one person in a million possesses― and also possess the other two types of Haki.

Luffy belongs to a family full of world-famous characters: he is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army and the world's most wanted criminal; the grandson of the Navy hero and former Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp; and the adoptive brother of the notorious pirate Ace "Fire Fist" - former commander of the second division of the Whitebeard Pirates - and of the general officer of the Revolutionary Army, Sabo. His goal in life is to become the next Pirate King, find the legendary treasure known as "One Piece", which belonged to the previous Pirate King Gol D. Roger, and conquer the New World leading a crew made up of great pirates.

As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he is the first member of the crew, as well as one of its three main combatants. Luffy was one of the eleven rookie pirates known as the "Supernova Eleven" alongside his crew's swordsman Roronoa Zoro, and thus one of the eleven pirates with a bounty exceeding Belly 100,000,000. His bounty was later raised to Belly 1,500,000,000 after the events of Whole Cake Island[1] and he currently has a bounty of Belly 3,000,000,000.

Luffy has gained a huge reputation around the world for causing trouble even among the Seven Sea Warriors and the Navy, committing crimes and actions that are considered threatening to the World Government.

He is also particularly known for his irresponsible and impulsive behavior, as well as for making decisions that are generally considered downright crazy; prime examples include the incident at Enies Lobby, his infiltration and escape from Impel Down Prison, and his participation in the Battle of Marineford. He is therefore famous not only for being the only pirate to raid the three most important government facilities, but also for escaping from all of them without any crew casualties, causing extensive damage in his wake (especially at Enies Lobby).

All of the above, coupled with the fact that he attacked a World Noble, hitting him even though he knew the consequences due to the sacred position granted to nobles by the World Government, has caused Luffy to be labeled by the Navy as the kind of pirate who would cause serious problems in the near future.

Appearance Start Luffy has shaggy black hair, round black eyes, and a slim, muscular build. His most well-known feature is his trademark Straw Hat (from which he gets his nickname "Straw Hat Luffy") which was given to him when he was young by the legendary pirate captain, "Ginger-Haired" Shanks, who in turn received it from Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King. He also wears vaguely Shanks's attire, wearing either long or short pants and high-waisted trousers, along with sandals and a red vest or shirt. Luffy also has a two-point scar below his left eye (he got it himself in Chapter 1). He was severely injured by Sakazuki in the Whitebeard War, leaving a large X-shaped scar on his chest. At first glance, Luffy appears to be thin and undersized.
