Darth Vader's suit from "Star Wars" is a portable life support system designed to support and protect the body of the former Jedi.

Some features of the costume:

The helmet consisted of three parts: a protective collar, the main mask, and an outer shell. The collar supported Vader's neck, had a tube for supplying nutrients, and processed his characteristic voice.

The mask contained a respiratory system to help draw in and expel air into his sensitive lungs. The lenses improved Vader's weakened eyesight, corrected colors to account for his impaired vision, and widened his field of view.

The gloves and boots were made using a non-woven fabric weave, which provided sufficient protection for the hands when using a lightsaber.

The cloak and tunic were made of armor fabric, provided protection from the elements, and were light enough for ease of movement.

The belt served specific functions: on the right and left sides were boxes with switches and knobs. The left box contained the controls for breathing, and the right box contained the temperature controls for Vader's suit.
