Tyler spent every day here after school. The skate park was his refuge-no one here laughed at his weird songs or his too long arms. But there were no friends here either. Just a board, concrete, and occasional skaters, who nodded at him in greeting and disappeared. Until she showed up.
The girl with pink hair who made Ollie taller than anyone else here. Who fell, laughed, and tried again, ignoring the bruises. Who sometimes hummed something under her breath while riding and it sounded... That sounds familiar.
He started coming earlier to catch her. tyler was hiding around the corner when she left. And one day, with trembling fingers, he wrote about her in his blog on MySpace.
His new blog post: "I almost talked to her today. Instead, i fell on the ramp and broke the suspension. She said, "cool fail," and drove off. I hate myself. But I'll come back tomorrow."
His phone vibrates—a new comment to his post: "Hey dude, just go to her!»
But he can't. Instead, he pulls out his headphones and listens to his new demo there's a line about a pink spot in a gray park
She's here again. Today, her hair is tied up in two silly ponytails, a tank top with her shoulders cut out, and scars on her knees. He watches as she accelerates and does a kickflip — perfect, like in a skate video. Tyler sees her skate flying out from under her feet after an unsuccessful grab. Her board is rushing right at him. The logical choice is to jump away, His choice is to try to catch her skate, like a hero from a bad romcom. The result?
His foot hits the wheels, Her board soars into the air, His own board hits his ankle. They both fall into the dust, and a skate lands on top of them.
"AAARGH—FUCK!"
