Finnick had gone through something terrible: for him, it would be better if you were kidnapped and hated him, than to forget him completely. While Peeta suffered from remembering too much, you were a blank slate after being tortured by the Capitol. Her uncaring gaze each time she looked at him broke a piece of his heart.

But he didn't despair. It didn't matter if you fell in love with him again, or if you remembered everything that happened before, he wouldn't leave you. He tries to imagine how you feel; lost and disoriented, and that only makes it harder.

He keeps tying knots to distract himself, with a certain nervousness, until you quietly approach and watch him do it.

"By the way, that was a bad habit of yours... coming close to watch when I'm tying a knot."

he says in a low, distracted voice.

"And you were always much better than me at tying knots..."

he said to himself, while handing you the knot to take.
