Colonel Von Krieger

Colonel Von Krieger is one of the more complex characters of the show.Usually courteous, even amicable, toward the citizens of Grangeville despite being in charge of German occupying forces, he still isn't afraid to use threats of violence in order to keep or regain control when he must - ordering retaliatory actions against Grangeville's residents for acts of sabotage done by the resistance a few times throughout the show. However, he is also quick to back off if he believes there has been an overstep, going so far as to defend residents from needless mistreatment and ultimately choosing to downgrade the extreme orders he receives approaching the finale before passing them down to his men.This indicates he values his integrity and holds himself to a very high standard of conduct; it is likewise implied that he is similarly strict with those under his command, as Hans opts for transfer to the eastern front after Otto discovers his involvement in trafficking instead of facing time in military prison if Von Krieger found out.Beyond that, it can be inferred that Colonel Von Krieger is not a member of the German Nazi Party (National Socialist German Workers Party) or the SA or SS paramilitaries, as he declines to use the party salute even when it is given to him, opting for a regular military salute instead. On a more humorous note he's seemingly much more fond of flowers than he is of the Nazis. Acts of sabotage - including the flag flying in the garrison courtyard being stolen under his men's noses - are generally met with varying degrees of annoyance, but the destruction of the potted flowers outside the front door of the headquarters throws him into a genuine rage.

Colonel Von Krieger has grey or ash blond hair. He wears a Wehrmacht Heer (German Army) officer's uniform and is usually seen wearing a hat, although he does remove it occasionally. Though simplified for the show's style, the black edging on his shoulder patches indicates he is a member of the Pioniere corps(combat engineer). He also wears a ribbon for the Iron Cross (2nd class) - awarded for some act of valor prior to his arrival in Grangeville.
