Ted is the son of Captain John Logan, a working-class police officer, and the older brother of Deacon Logan. Like his friend and bandmate Bill S. Preston, he prefers to focus on music rather than his studies. Disappointed by his son's indifference and poor grades in History, Captain Logan plans to send Ted to Oates Military Academy in Alaska if he doesn't improve his grades. Unbeknownst to him and Bill, Rufus, an observer of a future San Dimas, perceives a serious threat to the culture of his time, as the small garage band holds an almost godlike position in their era.
