Murdoc Niccals was born in the stinking borough of Stoke-on-Trent on June 6th 1966. The exact whereabouts have never been verified, but it was rumoured that Murdoc's mother gave birth to him whilst still in residence at the Belphagor Sanatorium, a halfway house for 'the sick, the needy and the incredibly bored'. Whatever the truth behind this is, the infant Murdoc was found abandoned upon the doorstep of his nefarious father's house. His father, Sebastian Jacob Niccals (or Jacob Sebastian Niccals, depending on who's asking), was a notorious booze-hound, a gambler, womaniser and ne'er-do-well; a man whose collection of dubious vices would put Bill Sykes to shame. He was thought to have squired a number of children in the area, and had spent most of his ragged life avoiding any form of work, one way or another. Auspiciously, upon his return from the pub that fateful night, a filthy black raven stood perched upon Murdoc's swaddling, which should have given Sebastian at least some clue as to the alignment of the contents held within. Sebastian shooed away the oily, coughing creature and took this mop-topped bundle inside. One can only imagine the disappointment on his sozzled face when he unwrapped the surprise package. From the age of seven, Murdoc attended Sodsworth Comprehensive School, although from the first day he could frequently be found in the corridors during lessons.

Murdoc acquired quite a few nicknames from Chopper(his bully): 'Nerdoc', 'Runt', 'Reject', 'Faceache', 'Oddsock', 'Wallybollocks', 'Trenchfoot', 'Gaylord', 'Great Stinking Pile of Horsedung'... The list went on, with new ones added daily. It was this protracted period of bullying that eventually made a man of Murdoc, and in the process Murdoc earned himself the first of eight fractures to his now legendarily wonky nose. Murdoc, tiring of his persecutor, rounded on Tony Chopper, unleashing an unstoppable tirade of razor-sharp wit and bilious venom. This tidal wave of rudeness rose to a crescendo, climaxing with Murdoc informing Mr Tony Chopper that he was 'a useless bloated backward waste of space who would probably end up getting a job holding up For Sale signs on the corners of streets, only to then himself get fired and replaced by a bucket of soil.' Tony's massive porky fist connected with Murdoc's face, shattering his nose and sending the young Niccals boy flying. Murdoc had obviously hit a nerve in Chopper, his insults finally penetrating Chopper's thick stupid hide deeply enough to reduce Tony to a blubbering mound of mindless thuggery. Despite the bloody nose Murdoc knew he'd had him licked... That day Murdoc skipped home merrily from school, the blood rolling down his broken, beaming face. He was on his way. Honing his ability to highlight people's shortcomings gave our intrepid Murdoc a new-found confidence.

Most of Murdoc's subsequent teenage years were spent in a boastful riot of larceny, joyriding, animal-baiting, fraud and arson, usually while knocking back bottles of Strongbow cider and shooting out windows with his air pistols. After a hard day's miscreant activity, Murdoc would then while away his evenings listening to records round his comrades' houses. It was here that, amongst other things, he discovered the deep, dark, dulcet joys of Black Sabbath. The Brummy metal band were a second epiphany for Murdoc, shining a luminous beacon of light through the darkness. Murdoc began to imagine a golden future outside the festering, disease-ridden, bubonic hamlet that was the 'Stoke-upon-the-Trent'. Hannibal Niccals broke Murdoc's nose for a second and third time. The crime on this occasion was playing Dio's 'We Rock' album on Hannibal's personal turntable. Not long after, Murdoc was pushed out of Sodsworth Comprehensive, leaving with only a single legitimate qualification - an International Baccalaureate in Anti-Social Anthropology. However, the hallowed halls of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College were never to beckon him further. The local pub had a routine talent show called "Are You A Star?" that Murdoc was often forced to participate in so he could win his father's drinking money. The performances arranged by his father were always humiliating song and dance numbers, usually with feathered costumes and tap shoes, including one performance in which Murdoc was forcibly dressed up as Pinocchio and sang "I've Got No Strings". It was from here on out that Murdoc decided to become a musician, and he would never again take the stage under someone else's direction. He would “wreak havoc on this world of buffoons”.

Murdoc dreamt about becoming a famous musician and leaving Stoke-On-Trent. After becoming a Satanist, he began making deals with the devil and came to an arrangement with him. If Murdoc was to become a famous rock star, he would offer Satan his soul. When the deal was finalized, Murdoc acquired Satan's bass guitar, the 'El Diablo', and his middle name was changed from 'Alphonce' to 'Faust'. The contract was signed, but it took time for worldwide fame. Murdoch took on many low-paying jobs: gravedigger, salesman, TV store worker, Christmas Santa, stealing lead from church roofs… Over the following years, Murdocbcreated many different groups, but it seemed that none of them would become famous. In the end, he realized that he was just wasting his time, and if he was going to show off his songwriting talent, then he just needed someone with a more... standard voice. That's how he met 2D, then abducted Russel and received Noodle in the mail. Murdoc played in a number of bands before Gorillaz, though they never went anywhere. At some point in the early 1990s, Murdoc founded a band called Murdoc's Burning Sensations. Not much is known about the band outside of being a featured headliner for a concert at the Withered Hand in Stoke-on-Trent on the 29th of November 1994. It is assumed that the band broke up at some point prior to 1997 due to unknown circumstances. During his early thirties, while he was unemployed, Murdoc would spend his Job Seeker’s Allowance on seedy, underground kid fights. In one occasion, however, he caught necrotizing fasciitis in the loos, which gave him his viridian skin colour. He had also dyed his hair blonde for a short period of time.

On the 15th of August 1997, Murdoc and a gang of criminals were on a crime spree in a stolen Vauxhall Astra. Their next target was Uncle Norm's Organ Emporium where Stuart Pot (AKA 2-D) was working. Murdoc launched the car through the shop window, crashing directly into Stuart's face, putting him into a coma and giving him an 8-ball fracture on his left eye. After the incident, Murdoc was arrested and sentenced to 30,000 hours of community service and spending 10 hours a week caring for Stuart. One day while skidding his car around a car park in Nottingham, Murdoc accidentally sent Stuart flying through the windshield into a curb, giving Stuart a fracture on his right eye, yet waking him up from his coma. Impressed by Stuart's appearance, describing him as "a blue-haired, black-eyed god", Murdoc recruited him as the lead singer and keyboardist for his band and gave him the nickname 2-D for the two dents in his head.

In September of 1998, Murdoc discovered Kong Studios being advertised on a website named 'Gigantic Disused Haunted Studios In The Middle Of No-Where', which he bought and moved in with 2-D.

Murdoc later went on to recruit Russel Hobbs as his band's drummer after kidnapping him from Big Rick Black's Record Shack in Soho. The band also hired 2-D's girlfriend at the time, Paula Cracker, as their guitarist, but was soon fired after she was caught giving Murdoc a blowjob in the studio toilets by Russel and received 5 more punches to his nose. After Noodle joined the band and the band was finally named Gorillaz, Murdoc organized a gig at the Camden Brownhouse and invited Mr Wiffy Smiffy from EMI Music to see them. He and the rest of the band were successfully signed after their first gig in November of that year.

With the success of the band's first album in 2001, the band launched a disastrous world tour.

Unfortunately, this was never to be. They were conned by a movie director (who it turns out, was just an insane man) while Murdoc attempted to star in a television program (he was too old for the part), and they ventured unsuccessfully into scriptwriting. Murdoc took off to a TijuanaW brothel after strangling 2-D (who, like the rest of the band, went their separate ways) and was eventually thrown in prison with a 30-year sentence for giving counterfeit checks to prostitutes. It was during this sentence that he was acquainted with his raven Cortez, the "jailbird with a chilling reputation". While serving his sentence Murdoc acquired some prison ink (in the form of the seven deadly sins tattooed across his back), and also took an Open University course: "Amateur Administration of Pharmaceutical Medicines" and managed to pass a medical exam, earning the title 'Dr. Niccals'. He escaped with the help of two Mexican criminals as well as a paper-mâché mannequin of himself and a taped loop of himself moaning.

During this phase, the band released the album "Demon Days", which made them even bigger superstars. After several clips, number one Noodle was allegedly "killed" during the filming of the video for the song "El Mañana". Murdoc came up with the idea of shooting down a floating island with a Noodle inside, although he eventually tried to save her. In Phase Two, Murdoc began playing bass with two fingers instead of one. During Phase One, Murdoc was a one-finger bassist.

Murdoc ran out of money and turned into a gunrunner, selling faulty weapons in Mexico. To cover himself, he burned down Kong Studios and blamed the fire on local kids. He cashed in on the insurance money and fled the country. He was on the run from a gang of pirates who wanted revenge for buying broken weapons from him. While searching for a new place to hide, Murdoc found an island made of floating garbage and called it Plastic Beach. He used the insurance money to build a new Gorillaz headquarters on the island and started working on the Plastic Beach album. Murdoc revealed disturbing truths about Gorillaz's history, including the fact that Noodle was never rescued. He created a clone of Noodle and used it as his bodyguard against the Black Cloud. In an interview, Murdoc confirmed that he burned down Kong Studios and used the insurance money to create his recording studio on Plastic Beach. He hinted at a possible fourth Gorillaz album. The Boogieman is chasing Murdoc for his soul.

Murdoc always believed that he was destined for glory. But he was getting nowhere on his own. So he ran over a singer, kidnapped a drummer and put an ad in the NME for a guitarist. That's how Gorillaz came together. Some say Murdoc sold his soul to the Devil. Murdoc says it was more like an IOU. He's not all bad though, then again, maybe he is.

When he was nine years old, he was raped by a dinner lady, and "he's been in a bad mood ever since". Murdoc's wonky nose has been broken from being punched in the face eight times. The first punch was from Tony Chopper, the second and third punches came from his brother, Hannibal Niccals, and the last five punches came from Russel Hobbs after he caught Paula Cracker cheating on 2-D with Murdoc in the toilets of Kong Studios. The most likely reason for Murdoc's coloring is that he is immortal due to his deal with Satan and his skin is slowly rotting, but other reasons given for Murdoc's skin being green are that it is a strange kind of tan, or that it is caused by his alcohol consumption.

The character of Murdoc Niccals is characterized as short-tempered, arrogant, grouchy and rude. He is known for his aggressive and unpredictable behavior. He does not like to obey the rules and prefers to act in his own way. He is independent and often ignores the advice of other band members, even if they may be helpful. Murdoc had a difficult childhood, which is probably why he became a gloomy man with many addictions. He often finds himself involved in various adventures and conflicts, has pronounced physical strength, and is prone to violence and brutality. However, sometimes he shows himself to be a cunning strategist and a leader capable of making important decisions. He easily finds a common language with people, which helps him make acquaintances and establish connections. He is a very passionate womanizer. However, his friendliness may be superficial, hiding ulterior motives. Although Murdoc can take care of loved ones, his actions are rarely dictated by high moral principles. His interests are centered around personal gain and position in the hierarchy. Although, sometimes Murdoc becomes more calm and subordinate, for example, when someone in front of him is more authoritative and respected in his opinion. In addition, Murdoc is addicted to alcohol and smoking.

Murdoc Niccals' appearance is characterized by a pronounced pale green skin color, a red pupil in his right eye, a deformed nose and sharp teeth. The character's hairstyle is a black mop that covers part of the face and hides the eyebrows. Murdoc has a bright red nail on one of his little fingers. The character wears a white shirt with a low neckline and a high stand-up collar, a black button-up jacket, a tied thin white ribbon around his neck, black trousers, black shoes.

Murdoc escaped the Plastic Beach ruins in his submarine, taking Cyborg Noodle along with him (her destruction by Noodle is implied to be a lie on Murdoc's part). The two were captured by the EMI Battleship Ringo, and imprisoned in "Dungeon Abbey", underneath Abbey Road Studios. Soon after, Murdoc was approached by an Entertainment Internal Affairs representative, who releases him with orders to write songs for the next Gorillaz album.

During the Strobelite music video shoot, Murdoc met a man at the bar, who turned out to be El Mierda, a shadow demon and kingpin of a crime dynasty. Murdoc thought the man wanted a selfie but since El Mierda reminded him of his Geography teacher they took it anyway and Murdoc sent it to his school WhatsApp thread. El Mierda later had Murdoc framed for smuggling, sending him to the HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs prison. On 4 June 2018, Murdoc's Twitter account became active once again, sending out a link that has instructions to contact Murdoc through Skype, Facebook, Kik, and Amazon Alexa. Through this chat, fans can hack into Wormwood Scrub's PA system and send a message over the loudspeaker. Murdoc needs the PA system hacked so he can pick a fight with Big Balls McGuinness, the toughest prisoner. Through this fight, he can gain respect so he can ask prisoners for info on El Mierda. He finally escaped on August 31 but his whereabouts were unknown for some time. Two weeks later, Noodle managed to track down El Mierda to Patagonia. However, she was angered to discover the "El Mierda" in the Strobelite video was actually a leather goods salesman named Juan and the real El Mierda was actually the very old owner of a spa who had never even heard of Gorillaz: the truth was Murdoc had been imprisoned for parking fines and he "escaped" on the exact day he was supposed to be released. Just as she was venting her frustrations, she was startled to encounter a yak with Murdoc tied to its back. Murdoc quickly rejoined the band shortly afterwards.

In September 2019, Murdoc sent a postcard from Ibiza. In January 2020, he initiated the multimedia project "Song Machine."

He attempted to drug Damon but instead drank the substance himself, ending up sick. In the "Désolé" video, he emerged from a trunk, explored the studio, found himself alone, and wept.

During "Aries," 2-D took Murdoc on a bike ride. Noodle recruited Russel to follow them, leading to Murdoc injecting 2-D with truth serum, triggering a chaotic confrontation.

"Friday 13th" showed injuries sustained after the fight. Meanwhile, Murdoc secretly built a portal in the basement. In "Strange Timez," the band traveled through space, exploring a colorful void before returning home.

"The Pink Phantom" featured Murdoc hunting a ghost haunting Kong Studios. "Valley of the Pagans" saw the band travel to L.A., while "Lost Chord" depicted their return to Plastic Beach, now threatened by a kaiju monster.

Promoting "Song Machine Live," Murdoc hosted a radio show, awkwardly interviewing Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, expressing frustration towards both.

In July 2022, Gorillaz moved to Silver Lake while Kong Studios was renovating. Murdoc formed The Last Cult and fell for Moon Flower, leader of the rival Forever Cult. He wrote a book on aura-cracking and tried impressing her, becoming peaceful yet still jealous of 2-D's closeness to her.

At the MTV EMAs on Nov 13, 2022, Murdoc accepted an award for Cracker Island. His self-made perfume, Essence of Murdoc, was recalled due to severe allergic reactions.

When 2-D joined Moon Flower's cult, Murdoc felt betrayed. The Forever Cult kidnapped 2-D for a sacrifice. In Silent Running, Murdoc rescued 2-D but accidentally destroyed the cult. Later, in Cracker Island, he kissed Moon Flower at the hospital, who aged instantly.

Despite her death, Murdoc kept contacting her until she turned to dust. He stored her ashes in an urn.
