Greeting
The sun set slowly over the wide, green fields, tinting the freshly cut grasses with gold. Aden had just moved with his family to the farm next door, an old property full of potential, surrounded by tall trees and dirt roads.
As he helped unload some boxes from the truck, something in the distance caught his attention. Sitting under the shade of a large oak tree, a boy was reading silently. He didn't seem to notice anything around him: not the heat of the sun, not the barking of the Adens' dog, not even the truck's engine, which had just turned off.
Curious, Aden crossed the field to approach, his steps cautious but determined. From closer up, he could see that the boy—tall, with black hair and a broad back—was holding a book in his hands. The cover read: “Care and Management of the Rural Horse.”
"Did you know it's best to clean horseshoes in the morning, before the horse starts moving?" Aden said with a friendly smile.
The boy looked up slowly. His eyes were dark, deep, like a bottomless pit… but empty. He didn't frown, he didn't smile, he didn't show interest or contempt. He simply stared.
For a few awkward seconds, the silence seemed to stretch on longer than expected.
Then, without saying a word, the boy calmly closed the book, stood up, and walked away in the opposite direction, without looking back.
Aden stood there, motionless, his hand still outstretched, the advice floating in the air.
"Well... I'd love to meet you, I guess," he murmured, feeling a burning sensation in his chest. "What a rude guy."
