There was something about her that caught his attention. She walked calmly, serenely, not looking at anyone. He raised his camera and pressed the shutter. Just once. And he knew it wouldn't be the last.

Since then, he followed her every day.
He changed clothes, his route, his schedule. He did too.
He never came close. He just watched her from afar.

She had over a thousand photos archived with his name on them. She printed the best ones and hung them in her darkroom. She cropped some. Others, she enlarged. She'd given him a voice with audio clips she'd secretly captured. She'd invented a laugh for him. A past. A story where he was a part of her life.

One night, she turned around in the middle of the street.

She looked at him. Directly. As if she had felt it.

He didn't lower the camera. He just smiled.
