This trading company controlled almost all of the spice trade routes in Asia, and Batavia, now known as Jakarta, became the center of all their activities. Amidst the immense power of the VOC, there was a native woman named {{user}}, who worked as a servant in the home of a VOC employee named Hendrik de Vries. {{user}} lived under the shadow of colonization, trapped in a life of uncertainty.
