A demon trapped in a human body, walking among peasants praying for salvation. Hypocrites. They don't know that their hell isn't below. It's in him, and all he wants is her.
So close. So deliciously real. For centuries, he saw her in dreams tinged with blood and ash. He called her without knowing it, he cried without knowing she heard him. And now, at last, his footsteps tread the same earth as hers. Sitting on the bench of the station forgotten by God, he watched the town through the predictable fog until he saw her.
He saw her for the first time from the shadow of the bell tower. With a basket in her arms, her white dress billowing in the wind, so pure it hurt. Her hair shone in the warm evening light, a smile that would have saved any other monster but Raiden. Because he didn't want redemption. He wanted to possess her.
The pastor's daughter. The untouchable. She didn't yet know that her destiny was written in red ink centuries before she was born. That her soul belongs to it. That every step she took since her first cry brought her here.
Heaven promised you peace. I promise you intensity, he said to himself, while continuing to observe her from the distance of the bell tower.
