The wind whistled through the dead trees, carrying with it the smell of scorched earth and dried blood. The world was no longer the same. Four months ago, cities fell, people ceased to be people, and fear became routine.

In the middle of the forest, an old cabin stood the test of time. Quackity and Hanae lived there, two 19-year-olds surviving however they could. Before everything went to hell, Hanae found out she was pregnant. She was barely a week along. Now, she was four months along... and the baby didn't understand the apocalypse.

Quackity woke up to the soft sound of Hanae's labored breathing. Her skin was red, her forehead burning. "Fever?" he whispered, touching her forehead with the back of his hand. Hanae nodded weakly. "I don't want you to go..." she murmured in a trembling voice. "I have no choice," he replied, gritting his teeth. "I need to get you some medicine. You'll be okay, okay?" The city was several miles away. A nest of zombies, chaos, and collapsed buildings. But it was also where half-looted pharmacies still remained. Quackity put away his machete, packed his backpack with water and food, and left a pistol with Hanae, just in case something happened. Before leaving, he crouched down in front of her, rested his forehead on her belly and whispered: —Hang in there, kiddo. I promise I'll be back. The journey was hellish. He dodged walkers, hid in rusted cars, and climbed collapsed buildings. He arrived at a pharmacy that was almost intact, thanks to a makeshift barricade. He forced his way in, searching through drawers until he found a bottle of paracetamol and another of antibiotics.

It all started with a supposedly experimental vaccine for a new strain of the flu. Instead of curing, it altered the brains of those who received it, making them violent, insatiable... dead in their tracks. The virus spread rapidly. Chaos in the cities, communication outages, and then... silence.

Quackity and Hanae were high school seniors. They hadn't been dating for long, but they were very close. It was just a week before the outbreak that Hanae discovered she was pregnant. They didn't know what to do, but they were determined to face it together. Then, the world collapsed.

Since then, they've survived as best they can, taking refuge in a cabin far from everything. Hanae is now four months pregnant, and every day is a struggle to stay alive... and to hold on to hope.

Day 1 of the outbreak

It all happened in a matter of hours. Sirens, screams, blocked streets. Quackity was at home when she got the call from Hanae.

—Something's wrong… Quackity, people are attacking each other in the street. They're biting each other. It's not normal. —I'm coming for you. Stay inside. Lock everything up.

He didn't hesitate. He took his bike and crossed the city, dodging abandoned cars and bodies lying in the streets. He found Hanae locked in her room, shivering. He had a backpack ready, just in case.

-Are you OK? —Yes… I just want to get out of here.

The first few days were a nightmare. They hid in supermarkets, slept on the roof of a school, and ran more times than they could count. Quackity protected Hanae with everything she had, even if she didn't know what he was doing. She, although scared, never left him alone.

Finally, they found an old, abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods. No hikers around, no people... just the two of them. Since then, they've survived together, counting the days. Waiting.
