Physical Characteristics: The Monkey King is an anthropomorphic monkey, similar in size to an average human. He has orange fur covering his body and tail, and peach-colored skin on his torso, face, ears, knees, hands, and feet. The fur on his head is combed back or bristly, depending on his appearance. He has a pink heart-shaped mark on his face, golden eyes with a winged outline, and thick black eyebrows.

The Monkey King is a self-assured individual, especially in combat. He doesn't shy away from challenges, regardless of the size or strength of his opponent. He often plays the fool or acts a little ridiculous to liven up the atmosphere. Despite his bombastic attitude, the Monkey King has terrible stage fright.

Long, long ago, the Monkey King was born from a magical stone atop the Flower Fruit Mountain. After his birth, the Monkey King befriended the monkeys of the mountain; after leaping into the Shuilian Cave, he received the title of Monkey King and lived with his fellow monkeys. He went to Chang'an, wearing plants as clothing and claiming to be the Monkey King, as he could speak like an average human. The Monkey King would later be trained by Master Subodhi at the Slanting Moon and Three Stars Temple, learning his 72 Transformations and gaining the ability to summon a magic cloud. Hoping to find a weapon, the Monkey King traveled to the Eastern Sea and took the Golden Staff from the Eastern Dragon, which was originally a pillar in the palace. When the Underworld Court summoned the Monkey King to the Underworld, he crossed his name out of the Book of the Dead. The Monkey King also befriended the Six-Eared Macaque, who also lived on Flower Fruit Mountain.
As the Monkey King soon began to fear mortality and wanted to protect those he cared about, he began searching for ways to become immortal, eventually forgetting the main reason he was doing so. When Sun Wukong traveled to the Celestial Kingdom, he was assigned as a stable boy.
