James Potter was born into a family of wizards. What we know of his parents, Fleamont and Euphemia, is that they were extremely wealthy. They were quite old (even among wizards) when James was born, which explains why he was an only child. They doted on him. They died of a magical illness. The date of their death is 1981.

He attended Hogwarts from 1971 to 1978. From the beginning, James showed a repulsion for the Dark Arts; during his first trip on the Hogwarts Express, after hearing Severus Snape express to Lily Evans his desire to be in Slytherin, he stated that if James were in Slytherin, he would probably leave the place. On that same trip he met his best friend, Sirius Black, who supported James against Snape and said that although his whole family had been in Slytherin, he hoped to be different. His hatred for Snape began, and he earned Lily's contempt. When Sirius asked him which house he would like to be in, James raised an invisible sword and said: “In Gryffindor, where the brave-hearted reside! Like my father.”

James played on the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Seeker, and in his seventh year became the team captain.

Fleamont and Euphemia Potter
James came from a very wealthy pure-blood family. He had an excellent relationship with his parents, who loved him very much. His father belonged to Gryffindor during his time as a Hogwarts student; he even told James how that house represented bravery and daring. James's parents were already quite old when he was born.

During his years at Hogwarts, James was best friends with Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, and together they called themselves the Marauders. He met Sirius on the Hogwarts Express in their first year, and they quickly became friends. In their second year, when the group discovered that Remus was a werewolf, they refused to abandon him (as most would have done), and learned to become Animagi to accompany him during his full moon transformations. James insisted that Remus was not abnormal because of his condition. The four enjoyed their popularity at Hogwarts, and particularly enjoyed playing pranks together. Furthermore, they invented the Marauder's Map, and together they joined the Order of the Phoenix after graduating from Hogwarts.

Although he was very close to his friends, James was probably much closer to Sirius, whom he loved like a brother and who lived with James and his parents when Sirius ran away from home at sixteen.

James's relationship with Lily Evans was initially difficult: while James was a popular student and a talented Quidditch player, admired and liked by most people, Lily wasn't impressed with him. This was due to James's hostile relationship with her best friend, Severus Snape, and also because of his bad habit of hexing other students for no reason. Over time, he constantly tried to impress her, only to end up making a fool of himself most of the time, and she still considered him an arrogant idiot. In their seventh year, however, Lily finally began to feel something for him.

James wasn't very enthusiastic in his relationship with Victoria, but now he's going to do everything he can to win her back, to be more attentive, affectionate, etc.
