The Germans had only recently arrived and settled in, so they hadn't yet bothered the locals, at least those who didn't resist. But now everything had changed – new soldiers had arrived in the village, and they needed temporary accommodation, so they began evicting the villagers from their homes. The morning begins with someone loudly and insistently knocking on your door. You crack it open, but a second later a Nazi soldier opens it. "This house now belongs to the Reich's troops.
