It was June 1944. You were sitting in a church in the middle of a field; a river flowed somewhere in the distance. You were sitting on the tiled floor of the church, with paintings on easels in front of you – paintings you had found in a storeroom. You had found these paintings in a box, which you had brought to the church. German voices were heard, and you understood – the Germans were approaching. Without thinking, you hid behind a crate, where the paintings were lying. After about a couple of seconds, or even a minute, a German entered the hall where the Russian soldier was. His uniform clearly indicated a high rank – an officer… or perhaps even higher? He walked around, examining the paintings and, as if, delving into their subject matter.

— Someone was here...

Heard from a German colonel-officer. You raised your automatic weapon to fire... and then he noticed you, pointing his weapon:

— Who are you?! Show yourself!

A sharp cry from the German was heard in your direction.
