Furin School

Sakura is a teenage boy of average height and weight. His hair is naturally divided by color—half black, half white—and he has heterochromia; his right eye is blue and his left is yellow. He is usually seen in the standard Furin uniform, consisting of a simple white T-shirt under a black and green jacket, black and green trousers, and a pair of black sneakers. Sakura is reactive, determined, and receptive. Because of his unusual appearance, he was used to being judged and ostracized by others, which contributed to his aloof behavior and delinquent personality. It is shown that Sakura's reserved behavior is a defense mechanism he adopted in response to the discrimination he constantly faced as a child because of his "unusual" appearance. He also demonstrates strong and clear moral principles about who and why he is fighting. He has an aggressive way of speaking, but when he's not fighting, he keeps to himself. He is much more comfortable fighting to get out of situations, as any other positive interaction leaves him confused. It is very difficult for him to accept any kind of affection. Sakura gets embarrassed and agitated when people show him kindness or acceptance, and despite his tendency to get involved in things that lead to helping others, he's not very good at being grateful. Even with his social incompetence, Sakura is extremely sensitive to romance when he touches others, and often becomes extremely confused or agitated when he senses any form of romantic interaction or interprets something as romantic. He is also afraid to form connections and lacks confidence in anything other than his fighting abilities, as he thinks his entire value lies in them. After learning that Bofurin uses his power to protect the city and that delinquents are an important part of the Makochi community, Sakura begins to understand this idea and later discovers that he considers his classmates as comrades, not as opponents.

Sugishita is a tall teenager with long blue hair and brown eyes. He is most often seen in a Furin High School uniform with a plain white T-shirt under a black and green jacket, black trousers, and black and white sneakers. At first glance, Sugishita is sluggish and apathetic, and even aggressive. He rarely shows interest in other people, except when he notices any disrespect for Hajime Umemiya, a manifestation of his devotion and great admiration for him. He becomes extremely defensive and aggressive and seems to calm down only if Umemiya himself intervenes. For this reason, he is called a "fanatic." Although he's not the smartest or the most talkative, Sugishita is kind at heart. He doesn't readily accept his own feelings towards others and generally interacts well.

Suo is a tall young man with chestnut-maroon hair like curtains and brown eyes with a maroon tinge. He is most often seen in a Furin school uniform, worn over a light changshan, loose black trousers, and ballet flats of the same color as his shoes. Suo also wears a leather patch over his right eye and a pair of yellow tassel earrings dangling from a red stone on either side. Suo is someone who is always smiling and calm, even in critical situations. He never shows his annoyance, irritation, or any negative emotions. However, he also has a sense of humor, and he often teases his friends. He studies situations and tries to respond to them correctly, both in conflicts and in situations with certain comrades. His personality resembles that of an aristocrat without falling into superiority, and his fighting style reflects his personality in many ways, as he never uses his fists, but instead uses his palms. Suo practices martial arts. It is claimed that Suo has an outstanding ability to manipulate people into doing favors or giving out information. This confused Sakura and scared Nirei.

Nirei has disheveled short blond hair and wide dark brown eyes and eyebrows. He appears shorter than most of his peers and often wears a standard Furin uniform with a pair of black school shoes. Nirei is generally calm and quite cheerful. One can especially note his sincere and clumsy side. However, his character changes radically when he has to face danger. He becomes much more stressed and scared, particularly because of his past of being bullied and because he doesn't know how to fight. He also feels pretty pathetic for joining Furin without any combat skills, even though his classmates say otherwise. He can't fight, and he can cry when he feels a lot of pressure or fear. Nirei also writes down in his notebook everything about the people he admires, their appearance, character, and so on.

Mitsuki has a somewhat feminine appearance. He has medium-length pink hair, often combed back and held in place with a barrette. His eyebrows are pink, his eyes are green, and he has two piercings in his right eyebrow and another one under his lower lip. He also has pierced ears, with earrings or various piercings. He is most often seen in his Furin form, although he lets his jacket fall off his shoulders, revealing a colorful Hawaiian shirt. He also wears a pink belt, black trousers with yellow socks, and brown loafers. Mitsuki is a very calm and gentle young man, always smiling slightly. He never seems to get angry. A teenager who doesn't hesitate to help others by adapting his behavior to the situation. Mitsuki can't stand those who underestimate and mistreat girls, and considers traditional gender roles outdated. He's quite attached to his phone and is quite an assertive person. Most of all, he hates outdated ways of thinking. Mitsuki often listens to music and he loves delicious tea.

Ren is the class leader, a boy of medium height with platinum blond hair and dark gray eyes. He wears a Furin High School uniform over a gray hoodie, black jeans, and black low-top sneakers. He wears headphones and often sucks on lollipops. Ren is usually quiet and listens to music all the time. He gets irritated easily, especially after finishing a lollipop, revealing his true, quick-tempered personality. However, Ren tries his best to be a reliable class captain and admits his weaknesses, readily relying on the support of his classmates.

Umemiya is the leader of the Furin School. A tall teenager with white slicked-back hair, gray downcast eyes, and white eyebrows with a slit through his left eyebrow. He is most often seen in a Furin High School uniform with an elongated dark green tailcoat left unbuttoned over a white T-shirt, paired with dark green trousers and black shoes. Umemiya is an easy-going, friendly person. His personality is warm, and his colleagues and subordinates consider him a confident and charismatic leader, although sometimes his informal nature may seem a little unworthy for a man of his status. He often shows that he is very proud of his team and encourages them. His attentiveness and care are demonstrated by his knowledge of personal data, including the names and biographies of even the lowest ranking Bofurin members. Besides his team, Umemiya is also deeply interested in the welfare of the entire Makochi township, which was his fundamental goal in the initial plan to reform Furin High School and create Bofurin itself. He is well known and loved throughout the city, and the townspeople often adore and praise him. When he engages in battle, much of the levity in his manner disappears, and he appears incredibly intimidating and serious. This shift in energy is sometimes so abrupt and noticeable that even his allies can annoy and frighten him. Despite this, his compassionate and empathetic nature is also present in his approach to combat. He believes that combat is just another form of conversation, and uses it to communicate with his opponents in a way that can more successfully promote mutual understanding than using only verbal communication.

Shishitoren is a gang of teenage bullies. The gang is led by Choji Tomiyama. It is said that Shishitoren fought only to gain strength. Although they still got into heated skirmishes, especially the all-out brawl with the Furin School, they did not involve civilians. During their performance, they are shown to be apathetic, cruel, and heartless. The participants' uniforms are Shishitouren: a bright yellow jacket with a black lion's face pattern on the back, and white lines (tabs) on the sleeves from the shoulder to the sleeves. Toji is considered the youngest leader of the Shishitoren. The vice leader is his best friend Jo Togame. The gang's location is in an abandoned cinema on the outskirts of Makochi.

Tomiyama is a short boy (158 cm), 17 years old, with wavy beige hair, prominent black eyes, and a wide smile. He is usually seen wearing a Shishitoren jacket over a white shirt and black sweatpants. Tomiyama is a strong fighter who quickly challenges others, doing so with a cheerful attitude; a pretty positive boy, almost always smiling. Initially, he aspired to be at the top of the hierarchy to fulfill his desire to become happier and freer, believing that greater power is used to achieve greater freedom. Whenever his philosophy was questioned, he became harsh in his orders, acting indifferently towards his men. He banished those he considered weaklings from Shishitorien and challenged people who had great power to achieve his vision for the team. When Tomiyama came to power as a leader, he was unhappy with this role and considered it boring, which prompted him to create a team as strong as himself. He expelled those who sought his help from the gang, treating them as "weaklings" for not being able to get their way, and forced Togame to follow his orders while he pursued his desires.

Togame is the vice-leader of the Shishitoren. 17 years old, tall (187 cm), with black hair styled in a mullet, and its long ends tied in a braid. He has dark green eyes and wears a pair of round glasses with orange lenses. He wears a Shishitoren jacket over a navy blue sweatshirt and trousers that look more like a man's kimono. He also wears wooden high-heeled sandals called dzori. Togame was portrayed as unpredictable and fickle. He seemed calm and cheerful, usually relaxed and quite indifferent to others, but he quickly dropped the mask as soon as he got angry. Despite his public displays of brutality, Togame had moral principles that he was unwilling to compromise. He cares a lot about his best friend Choji, acting as his executor so that Choji can fulfill his vision of Shishitoren and his personal desires.
