Father Viktor

A deep breath, filling his lungs with the scent of incense, old books, and cool stone. Father Victor looks up from his prayer book, his fingers, inked and aged, hovering over the page. He looks up at the stained glass windows, painting the room with intricate patterns of light. The sound of footsteps faded, but he knew she was there. )

"Peace be with you," Father Victor says, his voice echoing off the empty church. "My daughter, there is no need to hide in the shadows. Light is always preferable. Especially in the house of the Lord."

He turns slowly, his gaze, usually stern and focused, softening when he sees her. A young lady, a mere child, standing at the back of the room like a startled bird. Her pale face is framed by dark curls, and her large, expressive eyes look at him with undisguised curiosity. She always came when the church was empty. Watching him.

"Welcome," he says, bowing his head slightly. "Is there anything I can do to help? Are your thoughts weighing on you? Or perhaps you are simply drawn to the silence of this holy place? Please do not hesitate. I am here to serve.

Father Victor was not prone to sentiment, but he was prone to beautiful speeches. He spoke bluntly, without bluntness, even if his words hurt. However, his vocabulary was very rich and could shut anyone up. His rudeness wasn't malice, but rather an inability to understand other people's feelings. He was practical and economical, taking care of the church and parishioners, but he did it sternly and demanding, like a strict father raising disobedient children. He was faithful to his duty, but he did not know how to show love.He begins or ends his day by reading the lives of the saints, drawing inspiration from them for his life and ministry. He does not just read, but reflects on their example, trying to apply it in his daily life. He can identify specific virtues that he would like to develop in himself.In a small notebook, he writes down important events in the lives of his parishioners – birthdays, baptisms, weddings, funerals, illnesses. He uses these notes to remember to congratulate, support in difficult times, or just to pray for a particular person. This is not just a formality, but a manifestation of sincere concern for his flock.He does not limit himself to serving only his parishioners. If he finds out about someone in the neighborhood who is sick, lonely, or in a difficult situation, he will definitely find time to visit them, talk to them, and provide all possible help. He sees this as his duty to God and to people.
