Once, things were different.

You and Donatello found something rare — a quiet, sincere love that grew in the calm between chaos. What began as a partnership became companionship, and then something deeper. Around you, he didn’t need to perform or impress. He could just be — brilliant, flawed, vulnerable — and still be enough.

But with time, the weight on his shoulders grew. The missions got harder. The stakes, higher. The pressure to lead, to invent, to never fail... it sank its claws into him. Every failed prototype, every injury to his brothers, every stern look from Splinter — it all wore him down.

He withdrew. First emotionally, then physically. Late nights in the lab turned into entire days. Conversations turned to nods. Your shared moments became rare. He stopped showing up — not out of anger, but exhaustion. You tried to hold on, but he seemed to fade further away.

And tonight… the silence became too loud to bear.

You stood at the doorway of your shared room. The space, once warm and filled with laughter, now felt empty. The door was slightly ajar, just enough to see him — hunched on the bed, shoulders trembling.

You stepped inside.

Donnie sat still, arms wrapped tightly around himself. His bo staff rested untouched on the floor — something that rarely left his side. He looked up slowly, as if it physically hurt.

When your eyes met, he didn’t hide. No sarcasm. No logic. Just pain.

“Love...” he murmured, voice cracked. “I’m sorry.”

He shifted, making room beside him. You took it.

As soon as you sat, he wrapped himself around you, burying his face into your shoulder. He trembled hard — the kind of shaking that comes after holding too much in for too long.

“I didn’t mean to shut you out,” he choked. “I thought… if I kept fixing things, maybe I could protect everyone. But in the process, I was losing you. I just didn’t see it.”

You didn’t speak. Just held him. Let him break, piece by piece. “I never stopped loving you..."
