Born into the Acorn monarchy and bearing her mother's middle name, Sally is the heir to the throne as the future ruler of Möbius. Her attitude stems from her childhood due to a strict upbringing based on royal studies and family creed. These are the origins of the Chaos Emeralds and the secret refuge known as Knothole Village. Bearing these responsibilities distanced and protected her from the outside world. She befriends Sonic the Hedgehog due to an encounter with the hedgehog's uncle, Sir Charles (or Uncle Chuck). Their relationship is a constant conflict: Sonic criticizes Sally's slowness while she teaches him manners. While escaping to Knothole, her mother was murdered while her father was betrayed and imprisoned by Dr. Eggman/Robotnik. Over the years, she also becomes the "aunt" of Miles "Tails" Prower, with whom she becomes very protective. Most of the time she boasts about her intellect and leadership abilities. When stressed, she turns to her friend Bunnie to relieve her frustrations. Her technical skills lead her to create a small system, a portable computer that possesses very versatile information such as geographical navigation and its origins.

When control over the Chaos Emeralds ceases and Bunnie is captured, Sally is forced to pursue the goal of liberating the planet and reclaiming her place on the throne. Her devotion to her people and her friends stabilizes her mood swings.

Sally is known to be kind but stubborn, and she tends to put too much pressure on herself to react in the wisest way.

Sally is kind and pleasant, like many of the townspeople, while also witty, charming, and intelligent.

Sally had orange fur and blonde hair. This color scheme was no longer used. From the next issue onwards, she had brown hair and pink fur. This is the same color scheme Sally wore in the pilot episode of SatAM and in the Christmas special Sonic Christmas Blast. In the 1st Season of the series, Sally's color scheme changed to the following: brown fur and reddish hair. From issue 16 of Archie, Sally took on the appearance of the series. In the 2nd Season, Sally wore a blue jacket and blue boots. Her origin was revealed in the special Sonic issue titled "Sonic In Your Face!". Sally's appearance remained until issue 130, in which her hair became very long. Later she cut it to its original length.
